Pardon the delay. This weeks topic chosen by HemiAdda2d, last week's challenge winner. The winner of this week's challenge gets to pick the topic for next week! Show us Railroad Steel! New photos are highly encouraged. One photo per member. "Times up" will be posted next Monday so don't wait until the last minute. After the "times up" I'll post the poll for everyone on TrainBoard to choose their favorite image.
Old trucks rust away in the "yard" at Franklin Falls NH along with various other artifacts slowly yielding to time and the elements. The line south of here was taken out in 1936, the portion north was taken out in 1977-78. This is the old Franklin Falls branch of the Concord & Montreal then B&M.
How about a wheel lathe?? Have to use a fairly old photo this time. Still NOT able to et out and around without help.
Well I think it's gonna be hard to compete with that crumpled thing posted by Scott, but I found myself out near the CalTrain Station this week so I figured I'd snap an entry! Tracks at San Francisco King St. Station.
Alpine Steel In Garmisch, Germany is a sleepy little tourist town. It hosts a lot of tiny Bed & Breakfasts, souvenier shops, and Germany's highest point, the Zugspitze. To reach the summit, or "Gipfel", you must take either a 10 min cablecar ride to the 9718' summit, or a 40-min cog railway ride up and through the mountain to 9000 feet elevation. The rest of the way to summit is by way of another cable car ride. I took the cog, and the cog trains went by my hotel each day. Here's one, and the grade on the Bayerische Zugspitzebahn is just as steep as it looks. (up to 25%!)
Thanks Mark and everyone else. This picture was from one of my trips to NH to study the Franklin - Tilton branch of the Boston & Maine. If your interested, you can read more about it in my blog. There was some great pictures here, good job everyone on some quality pictures!
