I captured this pic of KSW 900458 in front of the Rod Mill a long time ago when snapping pics through the plant gate to use in modeling the Keystone Steel and Wire Plant in Bartonville. [IMG]

Note the lights on top of the cab...the loco was radio controlled, and someone told me the lights were used to clue workers into train movements.

More recently, a former plant manager, an HO modeler who operates on my layout, gave me a plant tour, dozens of ideas about modeling the complex, and arranged for some copies of old blueprints showing plant structures in the 1970s, the era I am modeling.

On my layout, I've taken a VO-1000 in Milwaukee colors and put the Keystone Steel and Wire name on it. When my painting and decoder installation skills get more sophisticated, I'll paint and weather one of my LL SWs in KSW colors to match the grunginess of the prototype and wire in a decoder. Eventually, I hope to replace my cardboard mock-up of the Rod Mill structure with a proper model that looks like the building in the pic above.

22 entries plus mine below makes 23! [IMG]

If we get 3 more, Mr. Train is going to have a hard time with the poll as the max options is 25. 2 more entries and we've broken the record for number of entries, previously set last week with the Modeling Contest!

Here is a frame grab from my video of Union Pacific #844 at Pinole.

I'll add to the list for this contest also, but I'll go against the "norm" and post a seldom seen picture (that I happen to like) :)

We were sitting at the East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel in fall of '07 waiting for some trains, and after a coal drag went through, we heard the fans kick on, and after a few minutes, the valley was filled with diesel exhaust.

Sweet! I haven't ever seen that before! I have heard the fans, but never saw the exhaust. I usually headed for the remote sections, to bag rarer angles. Very nice!
The backlight really makes that shot pop, too.

We stored 280 autoracks for CSX for a few months. Now we are waiting on some Ore cars from California to store.
