Traffic was really backed up coming south on Texas Highway 6 into Hearne yesterday. A long string of empty autoracks was slowly switching over from the old Houston & Texas Central (SP) line from Dallas to the former I-GN (MP) line that runs from Little Rock to San Antonio. The tight interchange track crosses over the highway so traffic was stopped for ever in both directions.

The state route 49 bridge is behind a span that has washed out multiple times over the years while No Hands remains. In fact the remains of the washout from the 60s remain in the river quite visible as you make the quite short hike to no hands. Also a lot of concrete abutments still in excellent shape where steel spans were taken out. The hiking trail obviously goes on a less flat route along the gorge.

Looks pretty battered and torn. That ballasted track it sits on sure makes me think of Kato Unitrack.

Here is another Missabe. They were using it to pull excursions out of the railroad museum in Duluth, MN.

YoHo- Love the bridge. Ain't often that I have seen angled concrete piers like we end up with on our models. Neat!
Caught this rare unit, battered and beaten as it is, here at G'dive on way elsewhere.

Then there is this surprise at SP's Brooklyn yard in Portland some years ago. GE power was extremely rare north and east of Roseville. It was a real surprise to get this GE. img564.jpg

SP's bloody nose sure is a nice looking paint job. Especially with the Speed lettering. Miss seeing them.

Do they have it running now. Last I saw it a few years ago, they were just dragging it around with the 822.

Good question. As you can see, it was spotted as if the lead unit. If I recall correctly, from here it is supposed to go east for the next stop. To do that, if unpowered, they'd need to take both units back to the roundhouse, other end of the yard and turn them around. If unpowered I would also be a bit surprised, as they don't usually like to have a single unit for crossing the mountains.
