A couple weeks back I needed to pick something up that was sold out in all of Roseville so a short road trip up to Woodland.

Cal Northern makes one of their homes in Woodland (as does Sierra Northern) This is the former SP West Valley main that runs from Chico to Red Bluff where it joins with the East Valley main which is still UP and heads north to the Shasta Sub and Weed/Natron.

The The Engine in the G&W company colors is a Knoxville Locomotive work NZE24B.
Tier for loco with an MTU diesel and AR10 alternator (with some gearing in between) The Genset is in the former Rail America red white and blue colors still.

From January 1992, CSX carries on at Florence, SC. Florence is located on the former ACL main and the flat yard there remains busier than ever with Precision Scheduled Railroading in vogue.

DPU? Likely not, but could almost be a work train?

Ten plus years ago, two eastward trains await crews at the east end of the Whitefish, Montana yard. All too many times, such waiting trains were due to a lack of rested crews.

Really nice shot Boxcab, with a neat sky too. I can't hope to catch a similar composition in this era, but I so hope to travel though ND, MT and ID someday.

Yup, DPU on a "Rock Train" heading into Houston from the quarries in the Texas Hill Country. Vast amounts of crushed limestone is needed to fuel the concrete plants scattered about the Houston metropolis. Instead of investing much in commuter rail, the local movers and shakers prefer to throw down more and more concrete to expand the highway system. It seems that after a major freeway or toll road is complete and open for traffic that it is almost obsolete due to the heavy traffic. So they put in more lanes.......on and on. On top of that, concrete is a major component of new building construction. When will it ever end?

This train is using a different type of car, but same cargo.

My son bags the passing of a pair of veteran SD40-2 units leading a continuous welded rail train west, just past Foxholm, ND.

I forget if it was USC or UCLA did a study, because Socal loves their freeways. The study proved that it is literally impossible to build your way out of congestion. So I now vote down transportation funding for generic highway expansion. If it's some particular pooy designed interchange sure. Bus rapid transit, light rail, a badly needed connector (65 to 99 to the airport here) sure, but no money for added lane from me.

I'm sorry YoHo. I know you meant "poorly". However, it often seems like "poo-ey" is more correct. :)
