What's the trailer I see across the tracks? It has a vague similarity to old GN colors?

Behind the Gavin Power Plant the NS WV Sec. 698 coal train. Now the NS does not own this track and CSX owns it ,but no direct connection to this track.

Did NS recently sell the track or has CSX always owned it?

Looks fair sized. Somehow I always pictured it as a much larger facility.

That just shows a bit of the rail activity around the stadium. It does seem a strange place to plant a sports venue.

Looks like the yard extends behind where you were when those photos were taken. That certainly makes it larger than my first impression.

I noticed the sports venue says "Stadium". Was there more to signage than just that one word? If that's all, it seems a bit unnecessary....

I guess the naming rights change frequently. The google maps calls it Westpac Stadium. Primarily used for Cricket and some Football (soccer). It is adjacent to the city rail depot so I guess the Kiwis can ride the train in to watch the matches. The rail depot was probably built there because it was flat. Most of the city is on a hill side kind of like San Francisco.

Don't they also have similar earthquake problems?

They are not as concerned about earth quakes with Wellington on the North Island as with Dunedin which is south of Christ Church on the South Island. A lot of the older buildings are vacant and being reinforced in Dunedin. Christ Church is still a mess after the big quake in 2011.

The C&O owned the track from Jackson,Ohio to Gallipolis,Ohio then up to Middleport Ohio. This was called the Pomeroy Sub. They used to bring coal from a mine in Wellston,Ohio , down to the Gavin Plant. During the 90's they took up all the track. Ns has always used this track. The only reason CSX keeps this track is the two power plants on this section of track.

I think the rail yard would be a perfect location for the Wellington stadium. I doubt if the neighbors would ever complain about rowdy fans. LOL

Good thing it's not in Seattle. They whine and whimper about anything and everything.
