    Alas,
I still haven't gotten out to do more shooting, so here's another from the Archives. Again, it's the United Railways, Ex SP&S on it's way to Banks Or. This shot was taken in 2010. See more of this in this month's Railfan and Railroad.

    John-

Recalling back a week or two, your train emerging from a tunnel photo, and wondering about that signage marked SP? Looking back through old BN ETT, that is indeed (ex-) SP track. It's trackage rights territory.

Weird, I don't get how the top of the pass could be. I know through Beaverton proper, BN dumped the ex-OE in favor of SP to Tigard, but heck stranger things.

John, that's a beautiful photo with excellent content, including the disinterested steers.

This is from a small hill just east of Sullivan's Curve in Cajon Ca. I know it is hard to see but check out the first car after the locos. Container cars that look like bridges. My friend has a great photo of them but I will have to ask him if I can post it.

I've never seen containers perched on stilts, fascinating. Doesn't look secure, but I guess it is.....?

Seeing the trestle shot, here's one from 2006, 4449 approaching Sherwood, OR, for participation in the Classic Car show there "Cruisin' Sherwood." We don't do this any more but it was fun and we sold a lot of tee shirts.

I'm wondering if the lower loads are on some kind of flatbed container or are the braces separate pieces?

Those cars/loads certainly have me curious.

Will a different angle help? Looks like a full floor under the lower load. The full length tank with similar stilt type support for an upper container is just a bonus.

With Writewood in the distance and the UP line busy in the background a BNSF consist rolls downgrade by Hill 582. Sullivan's Curve is out of site just left along the base of the far mountains in the distance.

I was thinking it was probably something like that. I've seen the tank containers (with the skeleton frame) before, as well as pictures of flatbed trailers in TOFC.

    John,

I've always enjoyed watching trains for the Garden Spot on Cajon Pass, Ca. Wrightwood, is a interesting place to visit. No trains but lunch either in the form of a picnic or local restraunt isn't a bad idea.

    Thanks for the picture.

Is this yard in Ohio or West Virginia? What is the nearest town name I might find on a map?

OK. Found it. Interesting the way track is laid out. Was it a larger yard at one time? What NS predecessor owned it?

Yes it used to be a lot bigger. Toledo & Ohio, Kanawha & Michigan, NYC. Penn, and Conrail. The south end of yard belongs to CSX for 10 miles. CSX has no direct connection to these tracks now.
