A follow-up to the CP GP40X story - they did acquire a half-dozen or so of these back in 2005, but they had gone through NRE. CP has them listed as GP38-2s of all things. They are now 2000 hp, non-turbocharged 16-645s, with one of the three radiator fans removed, some sheet metal work done on the dynamic brake blisters, and the original HT-B trucks replaced with standard Blombergs. But they still have their flared radiators.

The tracks about a half mile from our house used to be fairly busy, but in recent years not so much. Most traffic is now on the UP double main line a bit further east of us. "Our" track typically only has a couple per day, one in morning, one evening. So, imagine my surprise this afternoon, while out for my walk, when these guys went by, just as I was getting to the track. A loaded intermodal from San Jose going towards Oakland.

Is it a quizz? Or some teasing? ;) I guess every west coast railfan recognizes Cajon Pass's Sullivan Curve on the first pic above, am I wrong?;) And the second pic shows the same railroad a little bit lower, let's say between San Bernardino and Hesperia...

At the top of Cajon Pass, the rails split up, some of them going to one side of the Mormon Rocks and some to the other. Sullivan Curve is south of Mormon Rocks.

That is true, I believe main 3 follows main 1 through the curves while main 2 is on it's own.

    Maybe a re-route for a m-o-w window?

Possibly. There has been a lot more traffic this week on this line, but one can still hear plenty of trains over on the main, too.

When we first bought the house, had an unobstructed view of the track. Over the 33 years we have lived here, there is now solid housing between us and it

Sorry, I wrote Hesperia instead of Devore, which I wanted to mean.

The historic depot is gone, replaced by a prefab building.
