Welcome to the Christmas weekend edition of Proto Fun. Earlier this week while out doing Christmas shopping, I made a drive by of the Georgia Northeastern and found the D-32 sitting by the office. I couldn't get a better angle than this at the time plus the weather was a tad dreary so settled for this shot. I'd not see this unit before on the GNRR so that was a cool find. It wasn't until I downloaded the picture from my phone that I noticed that this unit had the armed forces represented on it's cab. Really nice stuff there. I hope you all have a great weekend and I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas!

Thinking of snow and Christmas, a scene from 03/09/1995 on the former N&W main at Narrows, VA. The 8575 is a GE C39-8.

Wednesday's NS 10K was coming out of the sun, which gave a nice shot of the DPU. I don't know why some DPU's get markers and some don't. Eastbound at Wyo JCT.

As seen at Christmas 2008, Knotts Berry Farm #340 built in 1881 for the D&RGW narrow gauge.

Unusual to see the "D" prefix. I have bee trying to think of when I last saw a company, other than an industrial, use it.

Ports Canada isn't exactly an industrial, more like a short line. MLW S-3, Port of Montreal D-2:

It also was numbered 1002 at one point.

Does that company still exist? Do they still use that numbering system?

Like any federal government agency, it goes through some name changes but it's still around after 115 years (founded 1907). The numbering system has changed over the years.

In 2017 it built another 6 km of track to handle increases of container traffic (ya gotta fill those double stacks!).

Today, it has three MP15ACs (8403 8405 8406), three RP20BDs (1000 1002 1004) and two yard slugs that were former GTW GP9s. The slugs are mated to the RP20BDs. No more D's though, except for a certain S3 numbered D-2 preserved at Exporail.
