I've been in the hospital most of this week. An extremely low sodium level. Feeling better now but I got behind in my project. So I'll see ya next week

Hmmmm. sounds like a dietary problem. If it was me. I'd increase the salt to tequila ratio!!

    Get well soon!!

    Great stuff, people!

Josta - I like that big gray patchy building. It really sets an atmosphere for that scene.

Get well soon and take care of yourself!

I have been given a lot of stuff from people in the hobby over the years, I have some really good friends in the hobby. One in particulars name was David Morris, he lived to be 94 years old and boy did he live and love live, he was always quick witted and full of joy, just a great guy, he has a son named Brian Morris who is also a good friend. When David passed, the MRR they built had to be torn down the house sold and all that goes with that time. Well I ended up with several very nice scratch built buildings and Brian even gave me some huge rock castings from their MRR. Now bear in mind I already had the scenery base down so it will require surgery to install these big castings.
Below is the first installation of rock mold from David and Brian's MRR. I first cut along the bottom of the casting kind of sat the casting into the cut then as you can see I used a couple of those long glue sticks ran thru an hot glue gun, trying to glue it in place. Then cardboard webbing, then resin paper hot glued to the webbing then the seams covered with painter caulk, and then a generous coat of Elmer's carpenters glue, I use it straight out of the bottle no thinning, and the carpenters glue is less likely to weaken with a small amount of water.
here are some images, I just really like his method of weathering these rock molds, wish I knew how he did it. David was an artist, I mean the kind of artist that painted and sold paintings, some for a lot of money.

I will let this set for a few hours then go back and do a bit more.
Thanks to my friends David and Brian.

That's great Tom, those are some good looking rock surfaces. It's always wonderful when you can incorporate something from the layout of a friend who is gone into your own layout.

Finished up several freight cars this week. Kanawha, Youngstown and Northern 31582 was built from a Branchline Blueprint 50' DD Boxcar. Representing the 1974 modeling period, the running boards were removed and ladders cut down on the opposite end. National B1 trucks from Proto 2000 added, as well as a pair of Sergent couplers. Decals from Highball Graphics, Champ and Virnex. [IMG]

Got track powered and tweaked and here I ran trains to check clearances. Also did some foam work to do some scenery imagineering. Excuse the bit of camera shake as I was working the throttle and the camera.

Here are a couple of photos of firsts for me, done a long time ago. The first is a scratch built freight station that was built around 25 years ago. I couldn't find a kit of building to kit bash to fit the space where I needed a freight station so I went into my supply of wood bits and put together this freight station. It was my first attempt at a scratch build of any size. It does have a detailed and lit interior.

The next is an old box car that came from where I don't know. It had no trucks and paint had been dripped all over it. It was probably one of my early attempts at weathering.

My old cell phone had to be replaced and I have been trying different camera setting to come up with the best format. Think this one will work.

Another week of great photos and stories ! If you haven't ever posted here, what are you waiting for. We all have something we want to show-off ;...something we are proud of. So what are you waiting for. Next weekend get your picture or pictures posted. We all want to see what you've built. We want to see what you're running. We want to see what your imagination has come up with.
So we'll see you next weekend.
