In the years after WWII, the Santa Fe as well as many other railroads, wanted to upgrade their passenger car fleet with new lightweight cars. The major car builders were all overwhelmed with orders so deliveries were back ordered. The Santa Fe did not like to mix older heavyweight cars into their premier trains, even if they were refurbished and upgraded to more modern standards. While waiting for new cars to expand their fleet of streamlined trains they devised a way to hide the older cars in the stainless steel consists. They painted the cars silver and added faux corrugations applied on with gray paint. Here is a modified N scale diner sandwiched in between a smooth side sleeper with a similar paint job and genuine corrugated side stainless steel car.

Good morning from cloudy, cold and snowy/rainy/sleety Northeast Ohio!

Got moved last weekend and am now fully in the new (to us) condo, only have about 200 boxes to unpack to find everything.

So with nothing new this week I will have to bore you with another old picture from the archives.

Here are my PRR FM C-Liners with a coal drag on the Strongsville Model Railroad Club layout which will be open for the NMRA Division 4 Layout Tour this Saturday.

    Thanks for looking!

HOexplorer, your photos are one of the reasons I’ve started to dabble in On30. Thank you.

About 1 year ago I posted the following image of upcoming project...................

This is my new winter bash project and here are a couple of new images. The tender doghouse has been changed and I can complete the tender now. The boiler needs a tad more clearance to sit down better. I have the trailing truck but can't find pony truck. Oh well, it's most likely here somewhere......

I will try to remember to do an update thread as I go along.

    As always, have fun,

Recently added Amtrak Superliner cars and a pair of F40PH locomotives all in phase III paint scheme to represent the California Zephyr on my layout. This has quickly become one of my favorite trains.

Very nice week opening up with the very unique ATSF passenger cars!

I have managed to finish off a foreground (elm) tree. I have also managed to finish a palm tree but i haven't taken a picture yet.

It's because of this proposed merger, which the ICC denied, that the D&RGW was able to purchase the SP.
Picked this Athearn Blue Box up at the Intermountain Train Show last weekend. I added the sunshades and painted the roof red, as the prototype had.
I just painted the horn, and I have to paint the handrails. Don't know how detailed I will get with this, but it's a fun project.

My wife said NO to a 3D printer. I wish I was 10 years younger, she would probably let me have one.

I have a few more queued up to print, as well as a sleigh. I plan to offer a few for sale in the trading post, so stay tuned.
