Remembering John Allen. It has been 45 years since he passed away and his layout was destroyed 10 days later in a fire. In 1992 the National Model Railroad Association released the NMRA - Heritage Collection - Car # 01. It was produced by Microtrains and is now hard to find. So, here, center stage, is a similar car that I decorated with decals obtained from Trainboard member urodoji.

Nothing finished this week although I have 3 boxcars, 1 covered hopper, 1 gon, and one diesel in the decal shop in various stages of completion. Bowling and family matters have taken precedence over modeling right now.

So here is a picture from my archives and I don't know if I have ever posted it before.

I think I have one in Z-scale too, M-T made a "Heritage" run of all the famous model railroads of the day.

Completed the demolition of my 30 Year Old N Scale road today and took this shot. I thought I'd feel sadness as I approached the last milepost for this railroad, but surprisingly I've felt none. My dreams of a new pike have been shining brightly and I'm looking forward to getting started on it.

I thought about finding a home for it and when I put it curbside, someone might pick it up. I stored the tables in the crawlspace, so if anyone in the Carolinas might want it, let me know. In its current state, it'll take no small amount of work to bring back to life.

What we need is a 40 FT flatcar, loaded, tarped and consigned to you routed SAL-Atlanta-LN-Evansville-CEI-Chicago Heights-EJE-Rondout-MILW and we'll be set. :)

Hello guys. I've been tired all week. Can't get anything done. And it's so cold outside, too. See ya next week.

Woke up this morning with the furnace out and temperature of -1F. Got the furnace fixed and ran a hot fire in the wood stove all morning, but being outside and bringing in wood has me really worn out worn out. Slept all afternoon and I'm not going anyplace.

SO, I was looking at my M78, 1553 and then I got out the 4-8-2 Mountain Frisco unit that I want to make into another M78.
And then for giggles, I posed the new T-19 next to them... The Ten wheeler is as long as the M78 boiler...

    Major milestone for me.
This past week I finally got my workbenches out from storage in the old equipment shed/garage and up to the second floor.
Most of my modeling stuff is unpacked and as about as organized as I'll ever get it.
There is also a metal cabinet not shown that sits behind me. It has 30 drawers 9x15".
I really like the natural light and being out of the basement. My watchmakers bench faces east out the window. Great place for a cup of coffee and watching the sun come up.
Today I plan on cutting some PCB ties staining wooden ties for next years Nn3 Christmas display.

I like your set-up John -- it looks like a very pleasant place. I welcome natural light as well, especially as my eyes age. My workspace is confined to a 1940's-era heavy wooden office desk and chair, but the limited area seems to work okay with N Scale.

Urodoji was also kind enough to send me decals. I shot the car with Krylon Aluminum (the needle on my old Badger 200 is broken), masked the roof off using Scotch tape…it surprisingly did a great job, and was the width of the roof! I then shot it with red primer.
