Back when I was in high school, my dad picked up a copy of the Model Railroader, Cyclopedia-Volume 1: Steam Locomotives. On page 153 he found drawings for a locomotive that he remembered riding behind when he was growing up. He decided to scratch build an O scale model of it. Using his Unimat lathe/milling machine, he fabricated the frame and all the running gear using brass and steel stock. His choice of galvanized sheet steel to build up the tender and boiler shells would not have been my choice, but he managed to form the parts and solder them all together. As I recall, he kind of lost interest in the project when he got to considering how to create some of the complex detail parts such as the air compressors and power reverse gear. He did not like my suggestion of just ordering precast parts from Walthers.

While going through some of his stuff last month, I came across the model and decided to add the running boards, pilot steps, air tanks, hand rails and tender ladder. I then painted and decaled it. I may go back and add all the piping and other missing details but for now I have something cool to remember my dad by.

Not sure if you could get a good nights sleep - but, the sheets are clean.

Good morning from cloudy and cold Northeast Ohio, no snow today but expecting a lot over the weekend.

Nothing complete this week, I built a couple of cars but I have to set up my painting area before I can paint anything.

Last week I took my Rapido FA-2's over to the club and took some pictures.

The FA-2's are hauling a string of H30 and H34 Covered Hoppers along with a few Lehigh Valley and B&O Covered Hoppers.

Hope to add some FB-2's when they arrive from Rapido some time next year.

    Thanks for Looking!

Continuing the series of downtown "nighttime" shots on the Gulf & Pacific Railroad, here's Kathy's Springs. Its depot is out of the camera to the lower left side.

A FYI on the above picture of Kathy's Springs; although the strip bar (on the far left), White Castle Burgers, and Jack in the Box are not in Palm Springs, the rest of the buildings you see are modeled after buildings there such as the former hardware store (with arches), pharmacy building at corner, Shell gas station after the Tramway station, and the liquor store down the street from our place there. The train depot is also modeled after the now-gone former SP depot in Palm Springs.
