The largest Pacifics on the Southern Pacific system were these Texas & New Orleans brutes in the 630 class. I originally bought this Arnold Rapido locomotive in 1969. Thirty years ago, I gave it the SP treatment to disguise it a bit.
Good morning from sunny and mild Northeast Ohio! Well, since I only got one car done last week, here are three for this week. I finished off a pair of Bowser PRRG39 Ore Jennies, this brings the fleet up to 40 cars now. Cars were assembled, painted with Scalecoat II Black paint and lettered with K4 Decals. Loads were from Dan Pikulski, you can find them on E-Bay. Next, a Details West sort of FGE RBL kit, subsituted Molocos cushion coupler pockets for the kit ones, painted the car with Scalecoat II Black and Silver, and Floquil PC Green paint, then lettered with Microscale Decals. Car was in service in the canned goods or other service that required some temperature control, the PC had 319 cars of this X73 class. Part of the G39 Fleet on the Strongsville Railroad Club layout, pulled by Steward C628 and C630 locomotives. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
The Penn Central car sure brings back memories. At the time of the merger I was just getting into model railroading as opposed to playing with trains. I picked up subscriptions to Model Railroader and Trains magazines and was keeping up with all the drama. I kind of felt betrayed by the whole affair for some reason. Just wanted everything to stay the same. Trying to model prototype railroads was a moving target.

In an odd way, perhaps that's a relief. Otherwise, it might have become yet another "some day" project that Moose could stress out over... Hmmm, maybe if Moose saves moose's coppers, then Moose can buy one next year...

Those are beautiful cars Rick. Not so were the 100 or so that were insulated with foam by the PRR to fight freezing I think.

The Illini Railroad Club took some of our modules to the Cornfield Free-Mo meet in McLean, Illinois this weekend. The Decatur train show also happening this weekend meant the turnout was a bit lower than usual, but it made for a less crowded layout. We saw some new modules show up this time and they looked pretty nice. The car that stole the show was this rare Spring Mills Depot Canstock car. Of course, none of my fellow club members had seen one before or knew what it was, which let me wax poetic about the annals of model railroad history. I had never seen one in-person either; it’s a shame Spring Mills isn’t more active. The cars they do make are top-notch though.
