From October 1994 at Altoona PA, CSX lends some muscle as CR C40-8W 6190 leads another attack on the east slope.
Orange is the new red, white and blue. When the RailAmerica livery first showed up on Huron and Eastern power, yes, it looked sharp, but the idea of replacing the old Pere Marquette heritage scheme didn't sit well with a lot of us local railfans. There are to the best of my knowledge still three GP38-2's running around in the old RailAmerica livery, but they generally don't show up here now and I have to admit I miss seeing them. The SD40-2 has become the norm here. I caught Huron and Eastern 3414, Goderich and Exeter 3393 and Chicago, Fort Wayne and Eastern 3415 tied up at Marlette awaiting a crew. Note that the orange paint on 3393 has faded noticeably compared to the other two units. Also discovered some rather interesting graffiti this week.
Through a forest of telephone and former catenary poles, MILW 169 East crosses the Northern Pacific at Sinclair, Montana on Aug. 14, 1979, about 8 miles east of Deer Lodge. NP’s route of the “North Coast Limited” has a 60-mph curve restriction just ahead.
That forest must be infested with giant spiders. There's a web of wires up there! Gives a new meaning to MOW - Mess Of Wires... Great photo.
SUN LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46441 approaches Newby Bridge on Friday morning Shade. The same loco in the rural spendour of Finsthwaite Saturday morning Rain!! DRS 68 009 Titan and 68 005 Defiant head for Crewe with a Nuke train bound for Bridgewater I was standing in the barely adequate waiting shelter trying to keep the cameras dry and directly above my head was a very active wasps nest! Kev
My favorite! Beautifully framed and nicely lit. Could have been any Friday morning in the last 100 years. And great picture postcard material.
Interresting to compare NP's neat track with soon to be dismantled MILW's, suffering of decades of under-maintenance.... Milwaukee Road's swan's song. Dom
