*Please read all rules as they may have changed from previous weeks*
If you notice a typo, error, or confusing statement, please notify Mr. Train or Mystere immediately for correction and clarification.

Modeling Photo Challenge Topic: "6 Axles"

    1. All challenges close at 10pm Pacific Standard Time, and will be noted with a "Time's up!" post within the thread.
    2. Please use the challenge as a motive to take a new photograph rather than using a photograph that you have taken in the past.
    3. Challenges are open to everyone, have fun!!
    4. Though not required, commenting on other peoples pictures is encouraged.
    5. Only one image per participant so please choose the image carefully.
    6. Please use the Cutting Room Floor thread for related but ineligible images.
    7. Any posts with images taken before the commencement of the challenge will not be included in the poll.
    8. For photos to be eligible they must be taken between Friday July 31st and Monday Aug 3rd.
    9. Ensure dates and times on your camera are correct.
    10. On Aug 4th, all entries will be put up for a public vote, in which all members of Trainboard may vote for their favorite entry(s), regardless of whether you submitted an entry or not. Voting will be unlimited multiple choice.

We look forward to seeing many contributors, remember this is to encourage all photographers to take a shot of the subject rather than post a photo taken in the past.

*Also, throughout the month of August, we will be holding our 2nd video contest! These will be held as completely separate contests from the photo challenges. Check back tomorrow, August 1st, for details. [IMG]

A Fairbanks-Morse H24-66 Trainmaster has six axles. Here, this early and powerful diesel stretches the couplers on a drag of 20 H2a coal hoppers.

Um, that looks like 8 axles?:tb-confused:

Also, I do enjoy these contests but if we give a week to contribute would we end up with more participants? Maybe a new album section for contests is in order to show off Trainboard talent to new comers.

    Nope, it's a 2-8-2. 6 axles [IMG]

We've played around with different contest lengths and found the weekend to be about the best length. Keeping them short and sweet helps minimize the "serious" competition and keeps them fun, giving the simple snap shot a chance. Sure we might get more participation, but then there is always a new contest next weekend.

We do have a winners thread in the works so be on the look out for that. [IMG]

Well, never counted them like that but I'm open.

I hear ya on keeping it short, but if it were a week long one might have time to put something together and make soe progress on the layour that may otherwise not get done for some time. Just a thought. Competition is good but can get out of hand I know.

Look forward to these threads always.

How do you normally count axles on the Mikado? :p

You might also keep an eye out for the August Video contest that should be hitting the threads by this afternoon. [IMG]

I always counted steam by driver axles, but that does not mean its the correct way to do it.

John, all axles under a given conveyance count for the conveyance. While a steamer's axles are not all driven, all contribute to its passage along the route and weight-bearing per engineering practices and design, so they kinda have to be counted. A steamer meant for fast freight or pax service, for example, would not be permitted to act in that capacity unless it had the requisite truck axles helping it in curves and keeping weight distribution managable.

17 votes and we have a 2 way tie! And my new fence hasn't had a single vote yet. :-(

Still room for more votes! [IMG][IMG]
