Here is how I shoot most of my modeling shots. Outside with a blue sky to light the shadows and real sunlight to light everything else. I never can get the colors right with indoor lighting and antique film. The real horizon helps me too.
I didn't get around to posting a photo last week so I am going to do it now before I forget. Bridge at Echo.

Russell That is a cool set-up. I wish I had half as much open ground around here. John W Great looking bridge! Loco1999 Awesome job! The locomotive looks great! Bryant Great looking scene! I think I can feel the ground shake!
Just finished spending a few hours adding trees to the layout and running a few trains. Here are a few shots taken from different angles of the layout.
I POURED ME A RIVER. I hope it dries right. Refection of very strong flood lights. I will tone it down next round. A bucolic day along the LLL.
Mark, Beautiful scenes! Nice photography too! Instead of toning it down, you might consider painting a few ripples so it won't be glass smooth. The viaduct is awesome work.
Hi, all, Been really busy at work, so no time...... However, reaching back into the archives, here is a interesting, international shot: June 2002- the Kato Showroom in Tokyo, one of the displays: Pretty cool! More of the Kato Tokyo showroom can be seen at: http://community.webshots.com/album/94748204VzPOtf Enjoy.
Pete- The above were taken 10 minutes after pouring. I would like ripples, but probably should let it dry first. By the way, there was a very faint odor when mixing. Now, there is none whatsoever. Product is Famowood Glaze Coat at Home Depot. If I had the right stir and it dries well and reasonably fast, I would recommend it. It does not pour like water, it is more like the consistency of Elmer's white and water 70-30. Price is $17 and change for a quart total. I used half for my N-18 river and had mix to toss after it coagulates.
Mark, I like the way your river starts off shallow and drops off deep in the middle. I blew off the yard work and got most of what I had planned done, that being utility poles, stringing cables and a chain link fence. I also worked on a couple of "mill houses". We used to have lots of them on Main Street near the textile mills, but they are all gone.
Mark: Those are very nice photo's of your river. The entire vignette of the river scene will be a showpoint on your layout. Stay cool and run steam.....
Some views of the JJJ&E: The double track mainline in both directions near the St. Albans tunnel: The Broken Tree Yard of San Marino on the upper level: The San Marino Santa Fe style station on the JJJ&E: The Engine yard in the turntable area (aerial view): Stay cool and run steam.....
It's Arbor Day on the layout! I worked on some Forest in a Flash product (actually, better named Small Grove of Trees in Two Afternoons and Evenings). I was pleased with the way they turned out, but I think they are too tall, even though they measure out to be scale height accurate. What do you guys think? I used F in a F Birch/Aspen, Sycamore, and Sugar Maple, all fall colors.
Paul Great layout shots! Mark Great looking river! I too am pouring a river. I am using Realistic Water by Woodland Scenics. For adding ripples, Mark, you might want to try Woodland Scenics Water Effects. John Sing Awesome shot! justTRAINcRaZy Awesome pictures! I really like the weathering on the house! Bob More great locomotive shots! Bookbear1 Awesome trees!
Here are a few oldies. This is the waterfall I made for the first version of my layout. I used Realitic Water and Water Effects to make the water. I dry brushed white paint to add the coloring. Right now the waterfall still stands. It is the only part of the old layout that does. I am trying to figure out a way I can upgrade it and include it in the new layout.
