I caught these brand new GM units Eastbound through Youngstown this morning, and in looking at the photo, the weathering caught my attention. While these are brand new, look at the light weathering on the plow and fuel tank already. This could easily be done with chalks, or an airbrush.
Hey, Nice shot J.D. I notice the light grey by the fuel tank. A little chauk & a little shine.Nice combo.
I think 72 went swimming and 73 was the pusher and didnt get wet.GM was supposed to fix the unit.Pics are in the new Trains I think.
It was the 72 that turned over. Almost none of it actually went into the water. The 72 was one of the middle DPUs. As reported on the DRGW group on Yahoo: "Involved in the derailment were the middle DPUs and approximately 10 cars. The two DPU units were facing nose to nose with UP 6373, a patch SP unit followed by GM 72, The UP unit has it's trailing truck on the ground (under the cab), but the GM 72 is laying on its side with the back porch dipping into the Colorado River! The first eight cars behind the middle DPUs are "accordion style" with the 9th and 10th cars on the ground, but upright." Jerry: These will be interesting units if they end up in production it will make for lots of speculation as to who will produce them in N first.
Wow, never thought that EMD could make a ugly locomotive, but they sure did with this one. But alas that is my opinion. Looked like that were kitbashing, cause they had some spare parts. Just looks wierd to me,wayyyy too much blue,,,adios wyatt
Yikes! What that thing needs is a massive chrome grill on the middle part of that nose and the ditchlights moved up on either side. I believe RR's asked for this ugly mess in order to make the windshields replacement parts the same as those used in GE widecabs. Then the notches came from the need for visibility. Lou
They gave up trying to make em purdy back when GP sales far outpaced Fs. The railroads went with function over form. It is easier to make flat surfaces instead of nice rounded ones. I finally got used to looking at the newer engines from GE and EMD but still miss the old cabs.
That SD has a face only a mother could love. I bet we are waiting a few years for these to show up in N Scale, but I would bet Kato, Athearn and maybe Atlas will vie for building them. But first, we need to see the real railroads purchase them and start using them.
