Spent the last week in Edinburgh, picking up our daughter who was doing her Study Abroad as an intern at the Scottish Parliament. Took these shots of the tracks coming into the main station, Waverly. We took the train from Waverly to King's Cross Station in London, but with pouring rain and too much luggage, didn't get any shots from that day
Edinburgh Waverley 1980's Pre - Electrification Hi I am Andrew Booth from Yorkshire England I am new today to TrainBoard I found 2 pics I took in the 1980's from same location but before electrification The Diesels from left are English Electric Type 4 (Later Class 40) 2000 b.h.p. / English Electric Type 1 (Later Class 20) 1000 b.h.p. / Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Type 2 (Later Class 27) 1250 b.h.p. complete with Fireman cleaning the Driver's window / Metropolitan Cammell Diesel Multiple Unit (Later Class 101) the motor cars had 300 b.h.p each There is also a British Railways diesel shunter in the shadows 0-6-0 wheel arrangement (Later Class 08) 350 b.h.p The pic in the trees shows the Class 20 not usually found on Passenger duties and they were often used in pairs Scotland seemed to like using them singular one of just a few British locos with only one cab and a hood most other types have a cab at each end in the background of that pic is a Brush Type 4 (Later Class 47) 2750 b.h.p. Regards Andrew
That is quite a maze of tracks. Is the building at right, (signal box?), still in use? Or is everything now automated?
From what I could tell, everything is automated. At least, I saw no lights in there the few times we walked by after sunset (I won't say "evening", since the sun was setting at 3:30pm!)
Awesome photos for my puzzle program ( 300 to 400 piece ) for my pc. Great before and after photos, thanks for posting . ( My Grandmothers side of the family is Scottish and the other side is Irish ... most wonder what the diff is and I tell em put on yer kilt and we'll 'ave a go about it ...) LOL
Hi Andrew, Welcome to the TrainBoard. Glad to have you on board. You appear to have railfanning photos from way back. Please consider posting some in the Ready Track/International Railways. Many of your country-men (persons?) already do. Also, are you into modeling, if so what scale? We'd like to see photos of your efforts in that regard. I'm sure you could give advice to those of us who are into UK and international modeling efforts.
Andrew, welcome to Trainboard. We love prototype photos here. Let's see some more. And Rick, wow, that sort of reminds me of Chicago.
