The road side is exactly the same as the rail side, with the exception of a shorter (building width) shed. Hope this helps some!

This is a great thread, makes me wish I had a workbench (going to integrate it into the train layout benchwork) to start kitbashing the kits I have and are still hunting down.
The kitbashes of coal mines/ rock quarries and scenes that use Superior Paper are of great interest to me.

    Excellent modeling there Jacques.

What color did you use for the bricks for the first two buildings? Very nice dark red.

    Thanks

To portray the power generating plant on my layout, two Walthers Superior Paper Companies were used. They have been fused together as a two turbine plant. Portions of two Walthers North Island Refining Companies were used to model pollution scrubbers which re-burn the coal fired exhaust. The water condenser and pump house were scratch-built. The attached water reservoir tank is also from the paper plant kit. The building which will house the (hidden from view) rotary coal dumper, is mocked in the background just before the backdrop. This plant is not modeled after any one particular site, but rather a product of ideas from photos off the internet plus some of the local plants around here. Particularly a small municipal generating plant near where I live. I have re-posted bigger photos as I did not realize that after having my camera repaired, it was set to the smallest picture size.

This factory was kitbashed from two Red Wing Milling kits, plus a water tank from another Walthers kit.

Beautiful Steve. That would look great on my layout if I had any skills. Sadly..I don't. :p

I can only hope my powerplant will look half this good. What did you use for reference in building this?

Anyone out there with an O.L. King and Sons kit? Does the building look out of scale to you (on the small side)?

I spliced together one and three-quarters of a Walthers car shop to make a diesel shop for Enola, PA. I also added a new flat roof with lots of ventilators like the prototype:

Inside I carved out some inspection pits and added some elevated walkways from a Heljan fueling rack kit:

Nice job on the paint job there. After just finishing DPM's Gold, "Night Life", I didn't feel like painting three individual brick colors. I just shot the brick in Tamiya's Hull Red and painted the trim to reflect the individual stores. I'll go back later and randomly paint different brick colors later. What a pain to paint all of them windows!

Thank you Mark for taking some of your valuable time to reply and thanks for the kind words.

I took notes for the merchant's row II structure and the brick colors are :
    1) Polly scale F414354 Special oxide red
    2) Tamiya Desert Yellow
    3) Polly scale F414350 Mineral red

About the Modular structures , I didn't take any note but I'm sure one building was painted using Polly Scale F414281 Boxcar red

Another use for boxcar red and mineral red is for fading the paint on the 40' boxcars. I airspray a very diluted ( 1 part paint to 8 parts alcohol ) coat on the boxcar sides, or I drybrush the paint on the lettering.

Thank you SinCity for taking some of your valuable time to reply and for the encouragement.
I agree 100%, painting all those windows individually is not the funniest part of model railroading.
I discovered that kind of unpleasant experience when I built the DPM Roadkill cafe but Merchant's Row II is even worse, with so many windows.
I found a very interesting weblink about the subject:

I think it's time to buy The Chopper II :psmile:

    Thanks much for sharing.

I've been building Walthers kits for years, in HO and in N. In fact, last weekend, I bought a Walthers Co-op storage shed (that little shed that usually comes with the grain elevator). I need it to go with an AMB laser kit I have.
It's great to see all the work done by the guys on Trainboard! Todd and Dave, especially.

A few Walthers buildings, in use on my 3x12 foot N Track modules:

    Glacier gravel - Ballast/Gravel supplier.
I use whatever extra cars I have.

New River Mine - For loading smaller coal hoppers.
    Quad hoppers and/or GS gons.

Western Flood loader - For loading longer unit trains.
Rio Grande Coal Liner hoppers usually. None with this day.

Fishplate ( Steve ) , you did a great job on that Tucker Candy Company factory, I wish I had some space on my tiny 24" X 36" layout to install such a structure.

Dave Vollmer, that diesel shop is impressive. Nicely detailed both on the roof and inside with the inspection pits.

Keith: That Western Coal Loader is really huge, a big structure for a big layout.

subwayaz: thank you for the kind words. To be honest, I've been working on that Merchant's Row structure for 3 months now and I still has to detail it.
I checked your work, did you apply the white wash for mortar lines ?

Here is an update to the fire log factory that was shown earlier in this topic. The structure is pretty much done save for a few details and landscaping. This structure was made from the brick building pieces from the Walthers Superior Paper. plus a bunch of scratch building.
