Scrap yard? Railroad museum? Parked in a yard with the wreck train, waiting to be called? Out along the line doing some steel gang work? Bridge work? Wreck cleanup? Picking up scrap steel along the r-o-w? Distributing new ties or picking up old, post-renewals?

Assuming it's the one that looks kind of like a cab and boom on a short flat car, to my eye it looks like something that would be part of a work group, as for bridge construction or repair. The platform looks too short for a primary role in a wreck situation, but it could be a useful auxiliary for that kind of job.

I have one of those cranes from the first run from several years ago. Not a good runner so I will use it in a scrap yard on one of my HO modules. I'm going to get one from the new upgraded series and will use it to push/pull a flat or gondola to pick up rail while my modules are used in a show.

I use mine in the scrap yard. Swapped the hook for an electromagnet.
