Hello All I am building a HO scale Wabash 16 wheel flat car that has a crank shaft load. Was the crank shaft for a two cylinder engine or a pump? I have been searching for stationary engines but have found nothing of this size. I did find one reference somewhere that it was for a Corliss steam engine but not sure if that was fact or opinion. The prototype photo is copyrighted so I cannot post it. Thanks. lexon
So far I have been able to find out the crank was used in a Hamilton-Corliss steam engine. The engine was used in an electrical power generation facility. lexon
I did find some possible info. Supposedly the crank was two parts, one for each Corliss engine. http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ampage?collId=hhphoto&fileName=in/in0100/in0187/photos/browse.db&action=browse&recNum=0&title2=Lafayette%20Street%20Railway%20Powerhouse,%202%20South%20Street,%20Lafayette,%20Tippecanoe%20County,%20IN&displayType=1&itemLink=D?hh:2:./temp/~ammem_fSVv:: http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ampage?collId=hhdatapage&fileName=in/in0100/in0187/data/hhdatapage.db&recNum=1&itemLink=D?hh:2:./temp/~ammem_fSVv:: One photo of one engine crank looks like one half of the load. There are two engines and cranks in the engine room. Thoughts? lexon
After looking at the power house photos I doubt the load on the flat car are two individual crankshafts. I have done a lot of searching and came up with this fairly new photo of a similar crankshaft. A huge two cylinder steam engine. New member Alllis Chalmers question - Huge Stationary Engines and Power Units Click on the photo and you will see a lot more on this two cylinder steam engine. Rich
