I am looking for info on an ex US Marine loco. It was a GE 45 tonner, built for the US Army about 1944 and numbered 8502.

After WW2 it became US Navy 65-0523 before moving to the Marines numbered 279669

Last I can find it was put up for sale about 2013. Any info of any kind is welcome.

    Thanks

Thanks for this. I know it came over here, in fact it passed through a Rail Shop Battalion not far from where I live. This is why I was wondering if it's still about, it would be staggering to have an engine built in the USA and operating in wartime Europe still around.

With all of the special interest groups we have in the RR hobbies, I'd be surprised if there was no information available.

I am quite new to these boards, do you think this is the right place for this? It seemed so when I looked.

As these still survive and operate, I could move it to the Ready Track. But it is also good here.

Here it is a picture of the locomotive in the last period. You can still see the original armoured plate riveting on the side of the cabin.

The locomotives had been rebuilt in the sixties replacing the original Buda engines with a single FIAT diesel, the electrical part had been left untouched as far as I know.
Here also a picture of the original Ne 120

you can see it looks far more american, basically is the original USATC whitcomb.
