Hi all, I need some help with the list of UP locos that have wings. Here is what I have so far: SD70Ms: 4000-4256 AC60CW: 7511, 7555-7579, 9826 Am I missing any here? Thank you for any help, BR
On the SD70M's, anything that has been built and running will have wings. They are adding 2-300/year and the numbering is not in order. UP4000-4999 ------------------ Jim Harrawood #85 Utah Rails Wyoming Rails D&RGW---Main Line Thru The Rockies
So far it looks like this: UP 4000-4273 SD70Ms (new) UP 4539-4541 SD70Ms (new, unconfirmed) flared radiators UP 4635-4637 SD70Ms (new, just returned to EMD) flared radiators UP 7511 AC6000CW (just returned from GE, unconfirmed) UP 7555-7579 AC6000CWs (new, on their firsts trips as we speak) UP 9826 C44-9W (repainted CNW, held captive by CSX, see the post "Stolen Wings" in this same section) Hope this clears it up! The 7511 was at GE for repairs, there is a rumor that when it returned to UP, it returned with wings. This is unconfirmed at this time. The 4636 and 4637 just made it to UP tracks and were immediatly returned to EMD on Jan. 5th. The 4635 made it all the way to Oakland, CA on a train. But it was quickly sent back to EMD also, arriving on Jan. 8th (rumor is that it died)
Only the 4635-4639 will have the flared rads, none of the other units will, 4550 was with the consist including 4635, and she was in primer, with standard radiators. More Standard ones to come as well, they are lined up in primer at GMD's backlot ready for paint. ------------------ J.E. Pindar Webmaster-Canadian Pacific Railway Resources http://cpr.railfan.net
The flares are a trial for more stringent air quality requirements expected to take effect for the tail end of the order, those units that are scheduled for delivery in 2003 and 2004 may be coming with flares, depending on how the trials are. ------------------ Corey Lynch Pres - Rensselaer Model RR Society, NEB&W RR http://www.rpi.edu/~lynchc/Railfanning/railfanning.htm - My Site http://www.union.rpi.edu/railroad/ - NEB&W
