HI, Greg: Can you tell me where the shoe-fly will be put, when it's time to tear the double main line track out of Down-town Reno, so Granite Construction can dig the trench ?? I don't know of any room or land available. Will all the traffic be going down the Feather River ??

I used the live in Reno and I still frequent there. Unfortunately I haven't gotten a chance to check out what's been going on exactly, but last time I was in town about 2 months ago, the right of way for the shoefly was cleared, about 1-2 blocks south of the existing right of way. (I was wondering how they got that in there myself...never remember there being any spare land there heh...)

I hear Reno residents think the project is the biggest fluked disaster ever placed upon them---something that'll never be finished costing the city millions and millions of dollars. Apparently they're running into tons of problems with utility relocation.

    I'm sure you've checked out Granite's rather (un)informative website www.renoretrac.com

Well right now, the switch for the shoe-fly will go in at the old second street underpass on the west end. The east end shoe-fly will go in at Sutro Street. Then it will meander in and around some buildings a block or two south of the mainline. It will be CTC controlled with electric switches at either end. The Reno branch will come off the main at Sutro and be north of the mainline and be dispatcher controlled also.

I was in Reno yesterday and drove by the site. The new street crossings are in from the west up to Virginia St. There is some track at the west end with cars of ties and a burro type crane. The crossover from the North track is along side of the ROW and ready to be cut in.

Hmm, it is a bit. A map showing project phases would be a useful addition!

Ah well. I "third" the call for some pics btw! ;) :D
