Hi everyone, I'm new to Trainboard and this is my first post. I'm very excited because I am going to a hiring session in Fort Worth tomorrow and am welcoming all of the well wishes that I can get. I'm doing my best to go in confident but not cocky. I'm bringing over two years experience as a conductor with DGNO Railroad (Dallas shortline) and over ten years with the U.S Army with me to the table, sure hoping that will help. An ugly marriage and divorce took me away from train service before, but those problems have been taken care off. It was the best job/career I had ever had so if I get this second chance I'm not looking back!
Woot Woot!! I got my app in here in Seattle, waitin' on the call!! :teeth: Oh, and welcome to Trainboard!!
I hope they call you soon.........well today went well, and I have a good feeling about everything. They have one more session to do tomorrow with 30 or 40 more people then they will make the conditional offers to the ones they select. They did tell us they are hiring 13 people out of the almost sixty people in both sessions. Keep us posted if you get the call, and good luck!
Congratulations! I have always wanted to go work for the RR but I have been told that you either have to have worked for a RR before (just like you did) or you need to know a friend or family that currently works for the RR. At least that is what I have been told anyways.
If there is a shortline near you and you are still interested, you should apply with them. I'm pretty sure thats what got me in. The guys at UP also stressed persistence, and I've known several guys with no railroad experience who got picked up after a couple of applications. Good luck and thanks for the congrats my friends!
so how long was your interview and what type of questions do they ask .I have a hiring session on the 29 and just wanted to get some insight
Congrats!!! Good Luck to you Moose! For Kari its all about safety. Most questions revolve around safety.Just be totally honest. Be ready to hear my favorite line. Cant spell stupid without a U and a P.Be safe out there.
The interview was only five minutes, he asked me what my safety and attendance record was at my previous railroad job, and then he asked me what I could offer UP as an employee. He then told me the reference that I had given for my previous railroad job was a personal friend of his and that he was going to call him that night. I think he was trying to see if I would get nervous or not. The main thing to remember whether you have prior railroad experience or not, is to be honest about everything and stay confident. You have to make them believe that your going to be the safest, most reliable employee that they can hire. Good luck Kari!
I was at the hiring session on Mar 22 also and go the call on the 23rd with the job offer. I already did my PAT and my med physical is on the 28th. Cant wait to get this ball rolling.
Awesome Sailordave I've cleared everything but I don't go for my PAT until the 30th. I'll see you in class!
So whats the word out there on the guys hiring out of Ft. Worth. Dont know how I managed to have this happen, but fortunately I was asked if I was available to attend training starting on Apr 25th.
