Hope you guys don't mind a stranger posting here...I just found this board Sunday evening. On Sunday afternoon I was driving thru my little home town (Navasota, TX) and had to stop for a train. Anyone familiar with Navasota knows you can't pass thru here without having to wait for a train. First a two tone blue engine passes and I said "hey, that looks like the old MP war eagle!" and then right behind it was a red engine with KATY on it. WOW, that shot me back some years. I had not heard about the UP Heritage paint, so this was very interesting to me. As soon as the train passed, I rushed to another crossing to get a second look. Then rushed home to look it up online. What a day! Today, I was at the bank in Navasota which is next to the UP tracks. Lo and behold, the MP and KATY engines came thru again. UGGGGH, if I only had a camera with me! (kicks self) We won't talk about me not getting any pics of UP4141 when it was in nearby College Station. My camera will be in the car beginning tomorrow.
Navatex, Welcome aboard!!! Just about anytime I leave the house, I have some kind of camera wth me, for just the reasons you noted!!! I know the feeling... This one of a few shots I have of the units, at Borie, WY:
Welcome aboard! Murphy's law strikes again. No camera= Something interesting seen! Gotta keep that camera with you at all times!!! Boxcab E50
Welcome aboard!!! Here's a couple shots of the heritage units that are featured on my UP site: #1982 'MP' (Keith Belk): #1983 'WP' (myself): #1988 'Katy' (Keith Belk): For more go to my UP SD70ACe page.
Are the trucks, fuel tank, and under carriage the same color on all these units so far? Thanks. Even the UP Presidential Library engine looks the same.
Yeah, it's all a silver-grey.. Silver is too labor-intensive to maintain, so they went with gray. That's what happens when you remove all your wash racks, doh!
Someone said a while ago that the DRGW heritage paint scheme would have been done before year's end. Did that happen, or was that just a rumor?
if they put one style of the C&NW logo (in reagrds to wording) does that mean that the others are not covered by this copyright thingo. Or will the loco come out covered in logos. that goes the same for the others that had multiple styles of logo.
Nice shots of these units. I had the good fortune of seeing the UP1983 on the UP Coast Line this past August. It was the trailing unit of a three unit consist of the ILCOA train.
Any idea of when will UP repaint an ACe in SP scheme DRGW scheme It seems that nothing happened since the Katy one... a long time has passed since last unit. Has UP cancelled the heritage program, or what? Greetings from France, Jean-Edouard
Well Jean... The UP was supposedly going to release either the SP/DRGW unit at the end of 2005 or early 2006...It seems to be a hit...PR - wise, I am sure they plan on continuing the program...maybe the painting contractor is just busy? Mike
Here was the "MP" version...when it made it inaugural run west back in July of last year...on the point of a UP employee special, here in Vegas.
