wow, I just checked the map, I did not know that part of the Fairplex parking lot is in La Verne! the north end of the parking lot butts up to railroad tracks. go to http://maps.gogole.com and search for 2780 Fairplex Drive Pomona, CA 91768 You will see the tracks just north of the drag strip, and per the map, if it is in La Verne, it is right next to the tracks
Wow, one would think this move would create lots of online chatter, however. it seems to be minimal. I wonder why?
My guess is that since the ~5,000' move from its original museum location to the Metrolink fence, there has been no visible progress that might make interesting photo material and fan discussion. IIRC, the last public announcement by the project chief in October indicated that 4014 would be thoroughly inspected and "fixed" while up on panel track and before entering Metrolink ROW. The main concern was that his crew had not been able to inspect anything underneath between the wheels while 4014 was low to the ground in the museum. He said that he wanted 4014 to be in good enough condition so they wouldn't have any problems towing her to the nearby UP yard over Metrolink and UP ROWs.
