John: LBF Company makes CSX "Big Blue" Boxcars in HO Scale, and they come with metal wheels, and sprung Mchenry couplers (I use KD's tho  ) They run Great!! Downside: around $16.00 US (thats alot when your on a tight budget :( ) Anouther Goodside: A whole lot of Numbers, like 20 I think.

PS--I have no affiliation with LBF Company , just a satisfied customer ;) :D

first off, Hunter, thats exactly why i'm making my own! Money right now is tight and all so. And I got alot of Athearn SP/UP box cars so... Just like the ones CSX has that are the "Big Blue" cars. And instead of spending $16 plus dollars on one car when I got a HUGH stock of decals from Microscale to letter the box cars for CSX "Big Blue" and all. I believe I can get off on a price of $2.00 or less a car! Being I have most of the needed materials to do all them up in CSX "Big Blue" scheme so...

And now secondly, Harold, look for them and if so, post 'em for me! I sure would appreciate it! TIA...

Notice that the last unit, as well as this one have EMD Blomberg trucks, as opposed to the other units that have the newer GE FB trucks:

    Harold,
Nice work! I love it.. Keep 'em commin! I may be an old B&O fan but.... CSX is the carrier now so.... I just bought me a C44-9CW by Athearn! :D So.. Now I need some newer type frieght cars and some newer loco's to do decent lash-ups! :D :D I may end up getting another C44-9CW in CSX if the first powered one is a decent loco! I'll get another powered for the 2 of them and all to have the power.

Once I get caught up alittle in the shop and with bills to free up some money.. The AC4400's are next in line to get a 2 loco powered set! :D

    Hey guys,

The U18Bs aren't on the roster anymore, but a couple were still on the property as of June 2001. I photographed CSX 9507 and 9503, looking pretty sad on the deadline at the Cumberland Locomotive Shops on June 27. Here are the photos:

Too bad they're probably on the way to the scrapyard, if not there already, but I'm glad I got a chance to see them one more time.

    Have a great weekend!

I checked for some more data about these "Baby Boats". I found that Diesel Era (my favorite "reference" magazine) published an article in their Sept/Oct. 1990 issue about the U18's. The SCL eventually rostered 64% of the entire U18B production!
The article stated something I had forgot: SCL bought the U18B's and used them also for "added flexibility" in their phosphate trains, since the U18's were basically half of a U36 (with the road "MATE's").
The first SCL units were #300-324 (FB trucks). The second order was # 325-392 (EMD Blomberg trucks). The third order was for the "lightweight" units, #250-261, equipped with FB trucks.

Here are the renumberings from SCL to SBD (& CSX):

    SCL 251-261 CSXT 1888-1899
    SCL 300-392 CSXT 1900-1990

I hope you have enjoyed this topic as much as I have! [IMG]

    Harold,
I've been enjoying it as well. I never was much on diesels hence my screen name. The Famous B&O EM-1 class "2-8-8-4 Yellowstone" I love my steam but I am into diesels as well. being so.. I never got into the G.E. diesels... I'm a big Baldwin and Fairbanks-Morse fanatic. I love the high nose diesels for some odd reason! But as this may contradict what I've said, my favorite all time diesel is the EMD GP-30. I love the looks of that ole boy. To bad EMD didn't make an SD-30! :D I love the dynamic brake blisters and the roll of the cab roof, it makes it not so "boxy" looking and mean looking with the bulges for the dynamic brakes on the long hood. Like the 57 Chevy, a classic car.. The GP-30 a classic locomotive in a class of its very own. Just different I guess from the normal basic design of loco's. :D
