On TCM starting at 2:45 AM is the movie The Broadway Limited with scenes of the train inside and out through out.

The plot is a Publicity Stunt goes awry when the actors are taken for kidnappers aboard this train.

Its an older, but entertaining show.

    Hurry, set your recorders. :D

Info on the Broadway Limited train and show.

    Hi robt46 and guys,

I hope you enjoyed all the flying side rods and the scenes of both the standard and streamlined versions of the steam engines that pulled the Broadway Limited! Also the GG-1 starting up scenes when it pulled the train in electrified country!

Back in 1938, there was a greater speedup of our Mile-A Minuet train runs than any other year in railroad history up to that time.
It was still hard times from the Depression and revenues were down.
The Santa Fe had the highest speed runs, but only ran the El Capitan and Super Chief twice-a-week.

On daily runs, the Pennsylvania still claimed first place. It was not as much a gain over its last year's recored as the New York Central's Twentieth Century Limited made over its last year's record.
We who like steam for high-speed running can enjoy that the Century averaged a mile a minute covering 11,712 miles scheduled every day!
The fastest runs of the Hiawatha, Detroit Arrow, and The 400 remain the same speeds, as in 1937, and are still the world's quickest steam trains. However, both the Twentieth Century Limited and the Broadway Limited break 70 miles an hour now for the first time!

Let's look at the Pennsylvania trains for speed in 1938, and all steam:

    Detroit Arrow....... 73.6 MPH
    Broadway Limited 70.8
    General .............. 66.5
    Golden Triangle... 65.9
    Manhattan Limited 63.6
    Southland............ 63.2
    Liberty Limited..... 62.2
    Pennsylvania Limited 61.6

There are pages and pages of records on other roads and their name trains, and I wont even go into the Non-Stop speed records!

Both steam and electric out ran the early diesel engines and they were pulling Pullman heavy weights too!

Then it began requiring more than one diesel engine on a train to equal one heavy haulin' steamer.

That's end of the line tonight guys, I'm clocked off. :D

Robt, do you have any of Al Staufer's books on Pennsy Steam? If they are as informative as the ones he did on the New York Central, they should have a lot of info on the Broadway Limited. I'm sure someone has written a book or books about the Broadway. I have three on the Twentieth Century Limited. :teeth:
