I have a Con Cor 80' smooth side passenger car with no trucks and no pins. They are a 'split' pin design. Any idea where/what I could use to secure replacement MT trucks to this with?
You can try this. https://www.con-cor.com/shop/assortment-package-of-bolster-shims-push-pins-split-pins-etc/
It is one of the last 2 pins in that pic. I can't tell, the diameter 'loos' the same , but the heads are slightly different. Of course they are 'out of stock'
I don't know if you can get Con-Cor replacement pins anywhere because they seem to be out of stock everywhere. If I remember correctly, the Micro-Trains trucks come with various pieces that include a pin and socket that will work with Con-Cor cars. You would have to open the car to place the socket on the inside. Another option is a screw and nut. An M3 is a perfect fit. If you use black nylon they don't stand out and are easy to trim so you don't have them sticking up on the interior. I've also found the nylon screw/nut combination has a tight enough fit that they don't work loose, although if that's a concern the nylon screw with a metal nut is usually an even tighter fit.
The MT four wheel truck/coupler sets do some with a replacement pin. As @CSX Robert correctly indicates, you must pull off the roof to get to the inside of the car to put the backing. At times, the connexion is not reliable; the pin can pop out and the truck fall from the car. If you put a bit of the Micro Scale window stuff onto the end of the MT truck pin, that does help retain it. It does seem to track better with the MT pin as opposed to the C-C pin.
