Trains in the rain are terribly appealing ... but trains in the snow ... that's what appeals to me most Guess it's the childhood memories coming out in me. Blessings & best wishes, Pastor Dave
Having said that, i'm starting to forget what rain looks like! It's been HOT over here the last few days!
Great one, Russ. The bridge in the background, ghost-like in the haze, adds to the mysterious feeling.
A foot of snow, and thick fog. The shot could have been better, but given the conditions, it came out OK. Thanks!
Made the run up to Yankee Doodle/Jenny Lake yesterday. Found this after I got back down and was heading home. Shot from stairway leading up to signals at CP E Portal. Just as it was rounding the curve. Another shot, as train was almost on top of me! Had about 8 locomotives on point. Plenty of 2 bay covered hoppers up front! Even found a Missouri Pacific gon, with pipe load. More impressive, was a Rio Grande gon, with what looks to be steel shavings. Overall, not too bad between rain showers, and before camera batteries died, with NO replacements! Saw 3 trains total, two UP and a BNSF, all westbound.
These snow pics are great! They are really cooling me off in this 90 degree heat! Keith, great shots! Where exactly is Yankee Doodle? It sure is dandy!! Russ
Who hiked up there in the snow and took it! Obviously some Paul Bunyon type!! Too cold for me! </font>[/QUOTE]I did, solo. I hiked in at first light, and baged this shot, sans train: I shot a WB manifest, and hiked back east when some london-thick fog rolled in, and completely shut down the sun. The Tunnel 6 coalie shot I posted earlier was next, as was Amtrak #5. Then 3 coal empties thundered uphill. The Tunnel 2 shot is the last of the fleet. There was every bit of 6-12" of fresh powder on the ground, and it made for spectacular views. A full trip report, 2/3's down the page: Moffat Route in snow
Lenny that is a superb photograph - chills me just to look at it There are some wonderful photo-opportunities in the frozen north for those brave enough to go out and shoot them
