I don't really like the modern logo, either. I mean, I know it's supposed to look like three tracks but to me, it just looks like three strokes of paint. And, why make them look droopy?

Wow, beautiful lighting in the first pic!

Interesting how those new Chargers are lit up inside the engine compartment.

Cool how you get pics of the trains I see in the mornings a day or two later!(y)

Sunset Limited running very late at Palm Springs, California. Transferring passengers to buses in order to catch the Star Light out of LA which they were going to miss.

The short-lived Gulf Breeze makes a stop at Montgomery, AL on 11/17/1990. The train has arrived on the former L&N main from Birmingham (and its connection with the Crescent) and will proceed to Mobile. To the far right is the former WRofA/A&WP to Atlanta.

Those F40 shots are classics. The P42s on that Sunset Limited are also nice in phase 4 (IIRC?) paint!
This is the closest I have to photos of that paint scheme...

So, as some of you aware, I've been in California for a week sorting out my 90 year old Mom. Anyway, it wasn't 24/7 so plenty of chances to film and photograph trains at Goleta and Santa Barbara and try out the myriad of Craft Ale bars that have sprung up since I was last in town. It is a hard job but someone's got to do it. Just about got over the jet-lag and I'm sorting the photos our first

Anyway. Went down to the depot at Goleta to get Amrtrak train 770 and though what the frig is that? Not having read a USA train mag for ages had no idea about the SC44s

All the Pacific Surfliners Coach baggage driving cars are at the South end with the SC44 at the other end

Do miss the FP40Hs though but these aren't bad and very, very quiet

More soon. If this Amtrak thread grows as I trhink it will I'll scour my Imgur files for some retro Amtrak photos from the late 1990s at these same locations

BTW, Llama Dog bar in Santa Barbara still my favourite California Drinking hole! I'm missing it already and yes, I did get over exposed to the sun walking around downtown Santa Barbara!

By the look of your face, I seriously doubt that was your first. LOL

I didn't realized that Surfliner was running the SC44s push/pull. Nice photos.

Very friendly chap actually. I did ask if I could photograph it just in case.

Less aesthetically pleasing are the Coach-Baggage drivng cars on the other end. With the aerodynamics of a house brick you get hit by a wall of air as they pass you and can't be good for fuel economy

Must be quite a good view from up there

This one is sat on the Goleta servicing point early in the morning before heading out with train 770

Ane accelerating towards South Kellog Avenue in Goleta. When I first came here back in 1998 it still had an original wig-wag over the crossing

I think I have some video of it working somewhere. I'll have to root it out

    In contrast

Timewarp back to Goleta in 1998

South Kellog Ave with the F40PHs still in charge

So the Amtrak 'new' station opened in september that year with a celabration event and local press coverage

    #2003 was the star

Balloons. If memory serves me correct the crane in the background was still erecting the servicing point

Digging these picures is inspring me to get my AZL F59PHI and double deck cars out (Z scale) and sort out why the trucks keep falling out of it, set up my Shasta Z scale layout out and give it a run

Yes. The tail end was B&O "Moonlight Dome". In front of that was Amtrak Sleeper #10020, then 3 baggage cars with displays. Can't recall what the car behind the engines might have been.
