Back in 1984 Thrall introduced their Lo-Pac wellcars. Initially for APL in 5 car units in the APLX series, two APL intermodal trains ran LA to Chicago via the UP and C&NW. A third ran Seattle to Chicago via Conrail. Later there were K-Line, Maersk and Santa Fe dedicated units, with an additional APL/APC unit.

APL also had several sets with generators placed on the A unit to run reefer equipment on the containers. The second version was a powered version specifically designed to carry reefers. The car was colored red and a generator was mounted at one end. Extension cords were strung from the generator to each individual container to provide power to the reefer units mounted there.

I understand that A-Line has produced the car as an HO version and an option including this gen set was produced [Interail's [later Deluxe Innovations'] version of the car in N Scale did not have this option, I think]

Can anyone supply information of the generator set - especially photos! - or confirm or deny that the A-Line version was close to the original? Can anyone confirm the color scheme for the car and gen set and the rest of the 5 units in the APL scheme?

    Thanks in anticipation
