Hi Ross, welcome to the TrainBoard. Glad to have you aboard. [IMG]

Is there any way you could obtain and post some photos of Thomas?

    Hank,
While you are waiting for some new Thomas pix from the West Coast, here is one from the East. This one was taken in July of 2001, when Thomas visited the Danbury Railway Museum.

I shot this picture the day before the Thomas event opened at the DRM. They were doing some test runs, with 5 of DRM's coaches. History was made, in a way, that day. It was the first time since about 1967 that a steam engine was run under its own power in that yard (the former New Haven RR Danbury yard).

Nice photo Peirce, thanks. [IMG] Did this Thomas start life as a British 0-6-2 tanker, or is it built on an abandoned American 0-6-0 chassis?

I know very little about the history of this engine. It is a Porter 0-6-0. Here is another angle which is a better view of the wheels.

And here is a close-up which confirms the indentification.

I couldn't help but notice that the people who restored this engine did an excellent job of making it run very quietly. This was done to avoid frightening the kids.

Peirce, those photos are great ... thanks! Obviously Porter used some form of internal valve timing gear ... Stephenson? How do you restore a steamer to run "quietly"?
