Know all men by these presents: To wit: and Forsooth: No Ugly Pathetic equipment shall be allowed on the premises of our rail facilities. All offending Logos are being removed from equipment purchased from them, and will be replaced by our own Logo asap! We will no longer use, nor clear snow from their right of way, and no more wrecks will be attended my our equipment, under pain of instant termination! The Management!
I have a freight forwarding system on my layout. I just went through it and replaced a lot of the stock UP freight cars. I am trying to get more of my custom painted items on the layout. I still have some UP stuff, but not as much. I will probably get some more eastern roads represented. It hurt to remove those Deluxe Innovations UP 40 foot boxcars. Those are really nicely detailed.
I once loved that Yellow / grey. I have a pair of Con - Cor U50s that will get repainted despite my ladk of skills as will any and all other UP stuff. Anyone in the Boston area feel like being involved?
UP has pretty much been banished from my layout as well. Most of my UP rolling stock was repainted into GN or NP stuff.
Sounds like a good idea. Don't have too many UP, so maybe better to just sell off the few I have on eBay, and replace them with other roads. Bill
I already have abolished all Uncle Pete stuff from my layout. I modela fallen flag of UP, but I don't think they should claim ownership, since SP was bought by DRGW, and UP merged with Espee.. In my way of whinking, right or wrong, that's like saying the BNSF own trademark rights to the St. Paul & Pacific rwy. Sp&P was a precursor to GN, which was merged into BN in 1970. They are so distantly removed that they shouldn't even be related. *plink, plink*
All this time I thought that Useless Pathetic was describing those in Omahahahaha who waste investors time and money on stupid ideas such as this..... I've nothing rostered from those bums. If they want me to do so, they can supply me with the cars of my choice for free. And pay me for displaying their logo! Boxcab E50
Seeing I operate a prototypical layout I will continue to buy UP,MP,D&RGW and other fallen flags of the UP..This also applies to the CSX and its fallen flags. The reason being I need a prototypical car fleet that includes the UP and CSX and their fallen flags since I model 2 eras. Now,you know NS,CP,CN,BNSE KCS and the others including short lines will join this licensing fee deal. Its a matter of time..Then what will you guys do? Letter your equipment Lionel Lines or American Flyer Lines-Nope! Those are under license to. Now think of this..You are not hurting the UP or CSX..You are only hurting the model manufacturers in lost sales.
The UP is banished from my layout. I was never a big fan but had a few cars. These will be repainted to reflect my own layout, which is not subject to the whims of the Borg. The only thing sort of resembling UP is the color of one Milwaukee Road diesel in the colors it used while shmoozing with the UP.
I still do have UP on my layout but it is diminishing with time, I also now model the fallen flags of UP.
I've got a little UP on my layout - I model 1995 California (SP & ATSF), so to be prototypically correct I have some UP rolling stock - not a lot. Now, I do on occasion turn the clock forward to run some UP "Building America" flag units - UP or not, I really like that scheme. . . I don't feel that 'banishing' UP from my layout helps or hurts any cause. But in my heart (& basement) SP and Santa Fe live forever!!
Perhaps. But that would only be those who specifically model the UP, or some operation closely tied to UP. Persons who would need to own any quantity of UP cars. For the rest of us, unless we have freight car fleets numbering in the many, many hundreds, on our layouts all at once, we might have very few. If any UP rostered. The bulk of your cars will be home road. For my operations, from a lot of research, including checking with the prototype vets of my RR, for foreign roads you'd see far more PRR, and Canadian RRs, than you'd ever see UP. For my smaller freight car roster, to be accurate I don't even need any UP. Although I did have several. Which now reside in the sell'em bin. So I'm not missing anything. Nor hurting anyone. If such potential truly exists. Boxcab E50
I am in the process of repainting 2 UP f-7's the Mil Rd. I was thinking of asking the Ugly Pacific for payment since I am not using their name. It makes since, we pay them for using thei name, they should pay me for changing one of theirs. Whatta think??????????
Boxcab E50,I base my freight car knowledge on 2 things. The 91/2 years I worked as a brakeman and close observation of the prototype. I see very few NS trains that doesn't have several UP cars in the trains consist. This also holds true for BNSF,WC,CN,CP,KCS,WC,CSX,WE,GTW and former CR cars as well as several short line cars and modern fallen flag cars such as Southern,N&W.C&NW,MP,SP,IC and so on. So,that's what my modern freight car fleet reflects as that is what I see daily on the NS.
No more UP for me! I do have some pre-surcharge UP equipment, and I will probably keep most of it. I will not be buying any post- surcharge UP stuff! CSX either! If UP and CSX weren't convinced there was something in it for them, they wouldn't have pursued this issue in the manner that they have in the first place. I think the others are taking a "wait and see" attitude. I'm sure they will trademark their logos, but hopefully, their policies will be different. The only way manufacturers will be hurt is if they make UP stuff exclusively and nobody buys it. The demand of the product will be the determining factor as to wheather UP equipment will be plentiful or not. If nobody buys it, they can melt it down and make something else with it! I don't think I would put all my eggs in the "UP" basket
Since almost every model is built to order by reservation, the demand for UP stuff may go down a bit, but the manufacturers aren't going to be hurt a whole lot, since people will just reserve other road names.
Yes. What you outline is true. For the "modern" era. Where there are so few RR name companies left. Owning large fleets of cars. (Not counting private owners, leasers, etc.) So we see the kind of mix you describe. But I'm back in the 1960's. Pre-mega-merger. Pre- Per diem. Where the same is not true. Where there were smaller numbers of private owner cars. And so many other railroad company car fleets out there. Boxcab E50
brakie I probably have no business commenting on this, (since I am so far from prototype), but if you have already purchased the UP cars then most likely they predate the UP license action and by extension is not an issue. Yes some of us are repainting our UP stuff we purchased before the license action and that is our personal statement. We are not counting your rivets or expecting you to get inline with our statements. If it was not for our differences we would all be the same. Eeeewww. braikie, be well
