Maybe Santa will bring you a supply of twenty five hour days, or eight day weeks? :)

Got some time on the layout these last two days. Christmas kept me real busy so enjoyed my time in the basement. Very long and tedious work but we'll worth the time and effort.

Some shots around the Trans Canada highway. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Rock wall below track level and around the bridge abutments.
    [IMG][IMG]

Some overall shots of the mammoth rock wall above track level. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Let me know what you guys think. Any suggestions welcome.

Nice work on the rock castings, looking good Peter. The initial staining is right on. Have fun with it.:cool:

Very nice results. It will look awesome once you get some stain on those rocks. Even now it has a very natural and "to scale" look to it. Keep up the good work, the scene is really starting to come together.

Got some more rock work in this weekend. [IMG][IMG]Finished the cut along the Trans Canada highway and the tall rock wall along the main line.

[IMG]Rock outcropping under the west bridge abutment.

[IMG]One side of the river gorge.

[IMG][IMG]The rock cut between the two bridges.

Let me know what you guys think.

Hope this is the right picture... Was the apex rock work based on a real formation here? It seems too big to me to be on the downhill side of a cut when the uphill side is smaller.

It's non prototypical, it's an old tunnel blasted down when the double stack container cars and tri level autoracks came in use. So the engineers just blasted the dome of the mountain and left the rock walls to save time and money.

I was inspired by another guys layout. He has a tunnel with the dome blasted off and sides left. Looked real neat to me so I modelled a similar scene on my layout. Adds another scene break helping to add larger perspective.

Ah, that makes sense then. The rock carvings themselves look great!

Gotta echo all the other kudos on the rock carvings. Very nice. I like the blown out tunnel, there is one on the Livingston side of Bozeman pass that does have that 'look' to it. It just seems fake, even tho it is very much there!!

Yup. Perhaps not prototypical to his favorite modeled company, but very real in the North American railroad world.

I saw your new video on Unitrack and it liked it a lot! I wondered what exactly gleaming was and you explained it very well. Keep up the good work!
