Here is my shot at using Envirotex for the first time still need to add a top coat of gloss gel. For my test I painted half of the river bottom a green just to see what it will do to the finish look of the river (left side of display) The first layer was 3 drops blue and 3 drops green the second layer was a 5/5 I think for the next test I will try 4 green and 2 blue. As for the Truckee River I just finished adding some rocks and dirt that I collected from my trip to Donner. The Creep that everybody talks about from what I can see went up the sides of my river about 1/2 inch on the first pour the second pour I don't think it did any creeping from what I see so not as bad as I thought it was going to be. what I will do is just go back over those parts with more dirt/grass and that will fix that.
Thanks John I did one more test today with the dyes this time I went for more of a blue tint with a touch of green so far it looks the best
Ok John here is 4 layers of Envirotex with a tint of blue/green I think I will be adding one more layer before putting a Gloss Gel top coat down for the rapids. For the first time using this product I must say it's been fun and not to hard to work with as you can see I need to go back and rework the river edge because of the "Envirotex Creep"
Mike it is look great!!! I love the river and bridges! Thanks for posting the prototype photo. I love seeing folks inspiration for their work. I can't wait to see more updates. Rob
Thanks Guyz! I must also Thank John Cubbin I did have a few questions for him about using Envirotex and I know you Guyz know what he can do
Not yet Loren I'm on my way to Michaels now then I will take the next week or so testing on the small displays first. I still need to clean up the "Creep" in the river bed before I do anything.
Loren here is my first test this is only Gloss Medium Michael's was out of stock on the Gel. I think I found a simple and fast way of making my river look as if its got some movement.........
Mike, I am following your progress with great interest. I have a lot of white water to do eventually when I get back to my new module and I must confess I feel somewhat like a leech. I'm letting you do all the testing and 'messing up' , (say it isn't true) and then I hope to gain from your going first and then eliminate some of the trials and errors you have put yourself through. Take heart though......copying someone else is the greatest form of flattery. Keep up the good work.
Just for you Loren.......... a quick note on the test display My first test I used a small flat brush to try and get the water effects to look natural but to me it just never worked and waz taking to long. The second test I poured the gloss medium in and moved / brushed it around with a small flat brush until it looked right but to me it looked just Ok with just using the gloss medium. I think if I would of used some Gel for the base then the gloss medium over that it would be that much better looking. Now for the final test was to try and apply the gloss medium and white paint with a rubber glove using a "Tapping Motion" Here is the end results using the tapping motion with a glove........
Mike, You keep forging ahead and it is very interesting to follow. You may have to end up using a little white paint to simulate some white water. I maintain water is the hardest object to model. Don't give up though. Looking forward to yet more pictures. It will look great with some greenery eventually..
That second photo is really fantastic. It's almost like you've edited a photo of real water in there.
Ok Guyz Testing!!!! My first time on Youtube using wife's iphone until I can get myself a HD camera............. http://youtu.be/KIYLXvzDIY4
