Anyone heard any more about the PA's return? I saw an article and pictures in TRAINS magazine a couple of months ago..but no word since. I have to also say those lovely ladies deserved a better fate than what I saw in the pictures.
I known the artical you are talking about that said that #16 was heading for the Smithsonian for restoration and display and that #18 was going to Oregon to be restored. I will see if I can find anything else out through other sources. ------------------ Strourbridge Lion www.trainweb.org/dhvm
I received the below message from another D&H source: ************* The units are supposed to leave Phoenix,AZ today after having been reblocked there. They are destined for Portland,Oregon and the hands of Doyle McCormack. Doyle will be rebuilding one cosmetically, in ATSF warbonnet, to be shown at the Smithsonian and the other will be made operational with the prime mover of a wrecked BCR M420B. The operational unit will be painted in Nickel Plate colors...I'll throw my honest opinion in here. The unit should be painted in its "PROTOTYPICAL" colors...ie either Santa Fe or D&H. I respect the work of Doyle but...the Nickel Plate scheme doesn't fit the history of the unit and honestly is an unimaginative ugly paint job. I know some people on this list will concur on this. A good place to get updates on the movements of the PAs is trainorders.com. Go to the western board and post a request for someone to trace the flats that the units are on. ************* ------------------ Strourbridge Lion www.trainweb.org/dhvm
It's really too bad that at least one of these dosen't make it back into D&H paint. These units have been a long time favorite of mine. I often wonder though, if they had not gone to Mexico and gotten wrecked would they have been saved? It may have been a blessing in disguise. It's sad that noone had the foresite to save any other PA's.

I have had some great luck in obtaining the PA's location and images. See URL http://www.remarq.com/threads.asp?group=alt%2Ebinaries%2Epictures%2Erail&nav=LAST If you don't get a chance to see the images, I have downloaded them to be used at the DHVM. ------------------ Strourbridge Lion www.trainweb.org/dhvm
I was able to stop by the Phoenix Yard last night and was told that I could come into the yard and take pictures in the morning. It was a little rainy today; but, I tried to take several pictures with my 35mm. When they are ready, I will post them for all to enjoy. I was told by the Yard Office manager that there was a "Hieght" issue and that he was not aware when they would be leaving towards LA. I also found the below information on trainorders.com that says they are leaving today. I will be in Phoenix until Friday morning so I will let you know if they realy leave here or not. If the weather clears, I will try to get some more pictures too. ******* As of 08:30 Monday Mar27, ATSF 94604 and ATSF 94660, carrying the PA body shells, are lined to depart Phoenix on the M-PHXBEL1 28, at 17:00 on Mar28. This train does not carry a set out normally for Matthie, so that means they should stay "Santa Fe All The Way," and get married to a Barstow bound train at Winslow Wednesday afternoon or evening. No high-wide clearances have been posted for these cars, so BNSF might have remeasured them and OK'd them as within limits. They are now billed to "Doyle McCormack," in Albany OR. -Pat Flynn ******* ------------------ Strourbridge Lion www.trainweb.org/dhvm
As of 5 PM last night, they had been lowered about 6-9 inches. I have taken several photo's from within the yard. I will let you know later this week if they left or not. ------------------ Strourbridge Lion www.trainweb.org/dhvm
As of 8AM today (3/30), the PA's are still in Phoenix, AZ. I didn't get a chance to ask the "Why?" question to anyone in the yard. ------------------ Strourbridge Lion http://www.trainweb.org/dhvm/
Before I left Phoenix, AZ to go home for the weekend, the PA's had been fully reloaded and reinforced ready to go. I don't know when; but, they truly look like things are moving now. ------------------ Strourbridge Lion http://www.trainweb.org/dhvm/
