Here's what I worked on today! Rocks.

I used real rocks for this scene that I found in my driveway. I made the smaller bits of rock(talus) by wrapping one of the rocks in and old rag and breaking it up with a hammer. This produced all different grades of talus, from large chunks to dust. I sprinkled the talus on top of the large outcroppings and let gravity do its thing, the large chunks of talus rolled to the bottom and the smaller bits stayed on top. Perfect.

Also, I worked on some glueshell on the other end of the layout. This scene, with a highway overpass is inspired by a scene at Afton VA.

    Thanks for looking!

If it weren't for the potholes that used to rip my friend's bumper off his Honda, I would wish my driveway was still gravel.:thumbs_up:

Looking good. I like to use the Nandinna bush as well. Best part is they are free and all you have to do is trim them to the size you like and paint if needed. Like the rocks that you did as well.

    All right then!

Here's what I've been working on. Mostly just scenery details.

I've added some service roads, leading to the tunnel and the bridge. My goal was just to have them blend in to the scenery and not be too noticeable.

You can see one of the roads along the tracks in this shot.

The above scene also shows a change. I've rerouted the river the flow along the tracks briefly before turning away.

The small path on the hill leads down too - this small dock.

The whole scene with some photoshop backgrounds.

There is still plenty of scenery to add to that scene though!

    Building the service roads...

I started with a dirt base. I then spread three lines of white glue. Two representing the edges and one for the middle of the road.

Next, I dabbed static grass on the the glue.

When it was dry, the excess grass was vacuumed up and I finished by sprinkling a little dirt in between the grass.

Awesome work as usual, Caleb. I'll have to try out your rock method when I get to building my Feather River canyon.

Looking through this thread again you do some great modeling Caleb.

The rock scene yo made using real rocks is just perfect. Lots of nice little touches on your layout.

    Thanks guys!

Last night I added some ties along the ROW. These are self stained Micro engineering ties.

Ho-hum... As usual, the stellar work that Caleb keeps showing off...:D:D
Very nice job! You may consider adding some ground foam in various colors to break up the texture of the one-color static grass...

Hey HEMI, didn't you take your truck down this road once looking for a tunnel?

Yeah, your right. Not just ground foam, but different shades of static grass too. There's more than one grass color in nature!

I am also planning to build one of those "Fly Swatter" static grass applicators. Should be fun.
