Thanks Mark. I vaguely remember the can or bottle on the roof but not what company it was. One of those cans on a factory or restaurant would make a really cool scene.
Is it like a 50-50 solution? Man, they look outstanding after the wash. The India ink is a great idea. Maybe 30-40 years ago, driving south on the NJ Turnpike, between the Northern extension and Newark airport, there were several breweries, Rheingold or in that category. I've also seen an auto reseller advertise with a car on the roof.
@Mark Ricci said, Is it like a 50-50 solution? A friend made a number of bottles of it about 30 years ago and gave me one. I still have about half of it left. He might have told me the mixture but it was so long ago that I don’t remember. Man, they look outstanding after the wash. The India ink is a great idea. The India ink does make a big difference. I might brush a little rust color chalk on it. If I don’t like the chalk I can rinse it off without affecting the India ink wash. I was doing some research on this set and how to install a decoder in the engine. I found that the two bottom cars didn’t come with the set. It came with two more Amfleet coaches that match the top two cars. The original owner switched the cars. The baggage car is lighted. I don’t care about the two different cars, in fact I like them and I wanted a baggage car. This week I’ll test the locomotive. View attachment 302419
The freight transfer building is finished. The roof isn’t glued on yet. I think I will add an LED or two for interior lighting. I’m also thinking of possibly adding a floor in the upper section for office space and adding an interior. If I do that it’ll be down the road apiece after the layout is fairly complete if I ever get to that point.
That's a cool looking building Joe! Definitely add lights. Other interior detail would be neat too. Also looks like the perfect fit for that spot on the layout.
Thanks Richard. It’s a Model Power kit. The parts were made in Germany and are well made. Everything fit together as it should with no issues. There are numbers for the bays and bumpers for trucks that are very small, and a plastic jig to locate them correctly. I haven’t installed them yet because they are really hard for me being so small. The instructions were printed in Vietnam. They are so small that I had to wear reading glasses and a magnifying headset to read them. I’d give the kit an A and the instructions an F.
Thanks in2tech. When I bought the cloud and sky paper I wasn’t sure if I would like it but it was inexpensive so I figured it was worth trying. When I installed it about 2 weeks ago I wasn’t 100% sold but the more I look at it the more I like it. It makes the layout feel much bigger than it is and it’s way better than a painted wall background. The only thing I would change if I did it again would be to make it 20” instead of 12” tall. I would have needed a second roll but it would have been worth it.
I like that you have a sign too, a nice detail. There was a trackside church that made its way into a number of Clinchfield photos. [Photo by John F. Bjorklund]
Nice church, have any of the fishing peeps caught a fish yet You think a beer/soda can is tiny Hopefully the Modern Gas Station build is not far off from making it on the bench. One of my favorite structures that and the DQ Grill from Walther's. Their instructions are not very good though, just have to take your time
Thanks Hardcoaler. I first became aware of that church when Model Railroader built their N scale Clinchfield layout many years ago. The sign came with the kit. It came with 3 options, St Mark’s Catholic, a Congregational church and Cornerstone Community. I may try to print my own sign for the Right Track Baptist Church, Pastor KC Jones preaching but Cornerstone Community will do for now.
Thanks in2tech. I looked in the boats and didn’t see any fish so either they haven’t had any luck or they’re catching and releasing. I think I’m going to install lights in a couple of the Amfleet coaches next and then start on the gas station. The Walther’s instructions are not wonderful but they’re OK, a lot better than the instructions for the World Express Logistics building.
The kit comes with a clear plastic sheet and cardboard with printed signs and 2 choices for the stained glass effect. The clear plastic is the window and the cardboard is glued behind it to create the stained glass.
Good response, I like it Catch and Release I have the Kato light kits in my Kato Amfleet ( I think that's what they are?), coaches but sometimes they blink, me too lazy to fix it Rarely run them, but I have them to go with my Kato P-42's which I really, really like, have 3 of them. My best running locomotives on my track. Almost bulletproof, if they will run on my layout, they will run on almost ANY layout .
