Thanks Kevin. The panels are just sitting there right now. I think I’m going to use Command strips to hold them in place. That will make them removable.
So the paper had the clouds on it already? Looks really good to me, vs a blank wall. Know how much the cloud paper was?
Thanks in2tech. I agree, it’s much better than the wall as a background. I bought the roll a few months ago at Michael’s. It was either $8.99 or 9.99 but I had a 40% off coupon. The price has gone up to $11.99 but Hobby Lobby has something similar for $5.49. It’s the same size but the clouds are a little different. You can see it here: https://www.hobbylobby.com/art-supp...m_term=4579603371106944&utm_content=Catch All HL seems to be cheaper on just about everything but the closest store is almost an hour’s drive for me. Michael’s is only 5 minutes away so I shop there when I have a coupon. Even with the coupon it’s still a bit more than HL but I’m saving gas so I guess it evens out. For what it’s worth I think I like the clouds on the one from HL better.
Very nice Joe... I remember seeing those last fall at Michaels after you introduced me to the foam core backdrops... They also sell a starry sky. Curious... Are you planting trees or maybe 2D structures at the horizon to soften the transition at intersection between the layout board and sky?
I’ve thought about using 2D structures behind the station platform suggesting a city there. I’d like to have trees if I can fit them in the limited space between the track and the backdrop. If I can’t fit trees in I’ll put brush to hide the area where the background and layout surface join.
Picked up the Hobby Lobby Cloud background today. Very excited about this as my layout has brick walls on 3 sides! And it was $5.49.
I was running trains today and the cloud background makes a huge difference. It makes the layout feel more real. The paper is a little difficult to work with, mostly because it’s 12’ long. Finding an area big enough for me to unroll it and get around it so I could cut it wasn’t easy. I ended up working on the dining room floor.
I literally watched a YT video on using this paper as a backdrop earlier this week and wondered about going this route since I have a long run against a wall. I'd say it looks pretty good!
Thanks Paul. When I placed the first panel I wasn’t 100% thrilled with it but I’ve run trains a few times with the background and it’s grown on me. Now I like it a lot.
Joe, that is an absolutely wonderful layout! The clouds really top the layout off, literally and figuratively!
Thanks Mark. I was running trains yesterday and the background makes a huge difference even though it’s only 12” tall. Thanks Mike. I ran trains yesterday (and will today) just to enjoy seeing them with the background. Before going to bed last night I went into the train room for a few minutes to sit in my chair and admire the view. Thanks Richard. I knew the backdrop would make a difference but I’m somewhat surprised how big the difference is.
The skirt, the green grass mat, the clouds, what a HUGE difference they all make, amazing I see a bridge over the water now, can I get a close up when you add the boats and fishing peeps I also went back and looked at a image BEFORE the clouds picture, really nice!
Thanks in2tech. The boats are washed. Next up is primer and paint. Once that’s done I can add people, then they go in the water. I’ll post pics at that time. Should be fairly soon depending on how I do with the painting. Thanks Kevin. I’m happy to help when I can. They sure do. It’s a whole lot better than looking at a wall.
