How do you mount a lighted magnifier ??? The plastic bases ALWAYS fail !!! Just had the 4th one from 3 different manufacturers break. For those who aren't aware, even a 10 watt light bulb gets Damn hot !!! If this thing had fallen on the locomotive I was working on, I would be on my way to a certain tool company right now !!! GRRRRR !!!!!:mad::mad:

Never used one of those , what I have is an old Ikea lamp and 2x reading glasses . Maybe try some stronger reading glasses if your sight is a bit less ?

Get one that has a metal base and frame, they all seem to have a plastic light socket and lens holder.
Think I purchased mine from Micro Mark.

A number of years ago my Wife bought me an LED working light that has a heavy weighted base several LED light settings, plus three magnifying lenses, one flat and two flip over round spot lenses and the magnification can be stacked as needed. Runs off a 12 volt source or 4 AA batteries. It is my go to when we have a power outage and I want to keep working. But my main working light is a regular office lamp, all metal, with a articulating arm. I have it attached to my wood work table by 4 screws and run a florescent 60 watt equivalent bulb in it. The lamp can be positioned an inch off the work surface to several feet. The head of the lamp can be angled to give me direct light from any side. For magnification when using this lamp I have invested in an Optivisor with additional lenses that can be flipped down for both eyes since I have some 70 plus year old eyes. And I also have on the Optivisor the optional mini spot light that can be angled on the object. The office desk lamp can be had at any store that sells office supplies and it came with an optional clamp if one doesn't want to mount it with screws. Takes a standard base bulb and they make a LED bulb also in standard base.

I have a non-magnifier version on my computer desk. I just drilled a hole in the desk, but not so deep the lowest articulated portion would scrape and have used it that way for about twenty years now. On my model RR work bench, I did the same- Drilled a hole.

I agree with Boxcab...just drill a hole in a back corner of your workbench and shove the part that is suppose to go in that cheap plastic holder down in the hole. If you ever decide not to use the magnifier/light item...just put your coffee cup in the corner where the hole is ;)(y)

I bought a metal magnifying light from Micro Mark for about $80, thinking for that price this should be a quality light. I didn't use it too much the first few months and after the 3rd month or so the light started smoking and gave out. Good thing I was home and didn't leave it on and leave my house. And this was UL approved, what the heck? Micro Mark kindly told me that the light only had a one month warranty from them and that I should call the manufacturer for a replacement. I called the manufacturer and they quickly sent a new light. Then after about 2 hrs use the light started to smoke again and gave out. Now I just use a cheap magnifying light that I found on ebay for about $10. It only stands about 5 inchs from the table, but it does what I need it to do............and it hasn't caught fire yet!
