HI . Why, when I've already logged in at the uppermost area of Trainboard home page does a statement appear saying " you do not have permission to ...... and then have to re-log-in in that large middle screen box by first clicking 'Go advanced' in order to submit post ' in a current thread ? No problem at all. Just curious as to why system has member log-in a second time in this situation..Why isn't initial log-in recognized throughout our stay ? I know that the amount of words entered affects this. I.E. A very short reply doesn't. A lengthy one does..Why ? (this last sentence was entered this very same way. I had to ' go advanced ' and re-log in to enter it just now..)...Mark
TB also requires that cookies are enabled, or else you'll have to log in every time you visit. Though as Ken said, if you select "Remember Me" you may not have to log every time even if your cookies are not enabled. Dunno why, because I do not allow cookies, yet I'll be recognized about half the time even after the computer is shut down overnight. Computers are STRANGE....
Yes. They are. Sometimes they simply do not hold the necessary cookie as designated. No ideas why, it just seems to happen. Nothing we can do from this end.
Railers, I'm not refering to the " remember me " feature. I'm refering to the need to have to log in a second time in order to submit a long reply to a thread..If one has already logged in at top of home page why is a 2nd log-in needed saying " you don't have permission to....." ? Thus, I then must hit "Go Advanced" where screen goes to new large log-in boxes mid page , log in here for this 2nd time..This then takes me back to post and post is now in the 'preview post' step, ready for editing and or submitting...Simply put, why does this 2nd log-in prompt occur ? It's all good. I'm just curious...
Mark, I now understand your predicament. In order to reply to a post, you MUST have selected Remember Me when you log in. If you do not select Remember Me, then you will experience exactly what you describe in your Today/8:15PM post. Furthermore, I assume that you are selectively allowing or blocking cookies by what you describe. In this case you MUST Always Allow the TrainBoard cookie. I don't know which browser you're using, but for Internet Explorer the following procedure will ensure that the TrainBoard cookie is allowed..... Select Internet Options, Privacy tab, Sites button, slide the scroll cursor down to Trainboard.com, and the Setting should show Always Allow. If the Setting does not show Always Allow, then double-click on Trainboard.com in the Site list and the Trainboard URL should appear in the Address Of Website window. Select the Allow button to the right, and the URL will disappear from the Address window, and the Trainboard.com entry in the Site list should now show Always Allow.
Oh , I savvy now..I will add I am always at library as no computer at home as yet..So I suppose the cookies are their settings.. Never actually inderstood cookies other than related to loading/downloading I think..I will hit 'remember me' Ive seen a thousand times yet can't locate it at this entry..Does one have to click it each log-in ? Or is it one time and remains stored ? Thanks, M
hi again.. It dawned on me to log out then log back in to see 'remember me' . I did and checked box . So I gather that if this very entry became very long the 2nd log in prompt will not occur as would before...cool !! I know it's cookies related but still don't get why one would not want to be 'remembered'..but don't worry about it. I'll just do it from now on.... Once atrain, mulch tanks for all your kelp in this batter...Mark
Mark, by selecting Remember Me, you are storing your logon ID and the fact that Trainboard has accepted your logon in the Trainboard cookie. Therefore when you type and post a Reply or New Post, the TrainBoard software (App) checks the cookie to see if you are logged on and accepted. If the cookie contains the correct logon ID the app then posts your entry. If your logon ID is not stored in a cookie, then you must log in again before you are allowed to post your reply.
Mark- Believe me, we aren't trying to make it difficult for anyone. What you've seen is simply how the vBulletin people configured their software. There is probably an odd quirk or two in every forum software out there, but by far vB is the best, and we do want that for this site.
