Yea... I have no prob with using the box control system. The only thing my DCC throttle operates is...TRAINS :)

The 'dead spots' are at 90 degrees either side of the turntable sensor on the face of the pit. I still put track at the dead spots and park a couple of older locos...that dont run or cant be DCC converted...on those dead tracks...so that area doesnt look odd with 2 empty track spaces :)

That is what I did, too, and didn't bother wiring those tracks.

Yes, it does but that was a model era that has now past. Besides, the man that I called dad, would of wanted me to install the new one. He would of encouraged me to do what I did with the Atlas TT. Just an idea: It would work for a model museum as the top deck is already covered for visitor safety reasons. If you get my drift. You could show off some of those older stoves and diseasels. Grin!

Glad to see you with a new turntable. You're going to like it, I guarantee it.

Dead! Dead spots! Oh you guys and gals, you can't or shouldn't be allowed to use the word "Dead" around a retired mortician. Our adrenalin starts pumping, mentally going down a check list that includes, loading the querney into the first call van, stopping by the cash register... cha-ching. It's ok I didn't hear the phone ring and was able to settle this old heart down and the angina let up. Jeez, I don't need to turn myself into my own best customer. LOLOLOL I know, I got it, halloween is over.

Glad to know about the dead spots...was unaware. Are these locations in the table? Could they be manually wired in? Just thinking ahead.

I need to review the directions. When wiring to analog DC, thinking I would need to wire in the track leads or storage tracks off the turntable with DPST toggled electric switches to cut the power. Is this correct?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm....may be a good idea...I will pitch it to THE Wife ;-)

I do have a new Yuckmann 4-8-4 that is just begging to be a museum piece...LOL

The museum thing was just a flash in the pan.

I've or rather Rick B., has already answered my wiring question. Pay attention RickH, there is going to be a pop quiz at the end of this thread. col

Time will tell as to how things will eventually work out for my roundhouse and turntable. Can't stand the idea of having a dead track, dead line, and locomotives dead in the lash-up.

The key on the bridge wiring are these two pictures. The first one simply illustrates what I stated above (and is for anyone else trying to understand these)

The bridge has no power to its tracks while going through the "dead" zone (grey bar above). This is the underside of the bridge

The outer rings are the track power, and you can see the gaps . The feelers in the pivot hole (right side of photo) contact these strips, and as the bridge rotates, the "auto reversing" is simply the feelers going through the gap and then contacting the other rail's strip. So elegant a solution!

edit: The arrows don't point to the gaps I am referring to (those are from the photo in the Walther's instructions). The gaps for "auto reverse" are on teh outer rings at 12 and 6 o'clock in the left photo

    Latest news:

I had on area on the 10 feet of incline where the 2 pieces of plywood butted together. It's been giving me fits from the get go !!
    I had a 'ski jump' hump there " ^ ".
Yesterday we went to Lowes and they had a 3x18 belt sander on sale. THE Wife bought me one :)

This morning I took the 2 sections of Unitrack off both lines in that area and fired up the belt sander ! It's now nice and level. I am a happy camper once again.

THE Wife is at her girl friends house for the day. She will be happy as her excursion train will no longer look like its gonna launch off the track ...LOL

    Sorry...no pics...it was a quickie fix and a necessary one :)

    Thanks George and Rick B.,

I appreciate your sharing your experience with the turntable. Clear signals ahead and one of my next projects when it warms up again.

Yep, those ski jumps can get annoying. Glad to hear that's fixed.

Spent the better part of the day sanding the plywood floor and laying the laminate flooring. Ok...there are some things old guys with bad knees, hips and a heart condition SHOULD NOT do....but I am determined to get this done. Hopefully tommorow :)

It is the last MAJOR project to do :)

    A Golden Spike moment...sorta !!!

At noon today I got the last of the feeders run and the last of the track glued down !! THE Wife and I have been out there for the last hour and a half just runnin trains :) We actually ran 3 at a time...which kinda freaked her out because she didnt know which ones where on the same track...LOL.

At least at this time I dont see a need to get down on the floor and under the cabinets anymore :) I will have to wire the feeders into terminal barrier strips...but those will be on the dropdown panels...and I can just sit on my mechanics stool and wire them !!!

I am gonna go out and clean up "Jeans Valley" side of the layout. I have to attach the cardboard for the sidewalls of the elevated portion of the track on that side. Maybe I can even get the sheetrock mud and papertowel layering done before the snow flies. It wont be long now and its gonna be white outside..:-(

    ( I hate snow !!!).

George, you can always run T.H.E.R.R.'s home down to a campsite in Phoenix during winter when snow flies in the mountains....

I love it! We had our first, way back in October. Bring it on. I'm snug indoors with my RR hobby!

I suppose I should refine my comment. I hate being OUT in the snow...LOL. It's 22 feet from the back door to the RV door. Seems like a mile in 3 feet of snow. :-(

On the other hand...standing INSIDE with a nice hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate...and looking out the window as the white stuff is coming down...yea...I can live with that :)

You need to negotiate some winter parking privileges. Get the RV closer to that back door. :)

George, what would it take to construct a 22' 2x4 reinforced plastic covered tunnel?
