I decided it was time to make some sort of Industry.

I had purchased a few cool looking metallic red aluminum spray bottles at the local dollar store for spraying ballast etc.. I redid the tops on 2 of them with the intent to make liquid storage tanks in the industry area from them someday. I had a 12x18 piece of plasctic with one side rough...figured it would make a nice asphalt paved area for T.H.E. Company.

    *Picture #1*

I couldnt decide what to use for the piping. I tried a coat hanger...but as you can see in the first pic...the pipe was way to small for the fittings...just didnt look right. The pipe fittings are "RainDrip" irrigation (small drip system for flower beds etc) fitting purchased at Ace Hardware. I ended up going back to ACE and buying a 1/8 dowel and cut/shaped them into the fittings. I used a black dry erase marker to color the 'pipes'.

    *Picture #2*

The white recirculating/recovery tanks next to the building are the small containers my test strip drums for my glucose meter came in. The cooling towers at the back of the facility are the same containers with the empty test strip drums glued on top...for a cooling fan effect.

The unloading area and pump for the tank cars is just a piece of 1/2x1/2 inch square piece of plastic I had laying around. It had a pressed in fitting to bolt whatever it was originally attached to in it. I cut it to fit and the pipe slipped right into the fitting ! I fashioned a 1/4 'T' "RainDrip" fitting to make a dual manifold wit 2 hoses so that 2 tank cars can unload at the same time.

    *Pictures 3-4-5*

The last few pics are the finished project as we took off in "T.H.E." Corparate helicopter. I even managed to get a good down shot of the storage area as we flew over...heading back into "T.H.E. Town".

The Industrial module will be going in 'T.H.E. Yard' area...both for ease of bringing in the tank cars...and the smell!!! No one in 'T.H.E. Town' wanted it anywhere near them !!! LOL.

I am pretty pleased with the results and "T.H.E." wife loves it...so it's all good !!

Just thought I would share my kitbashed "T.H.E. Fertilizer & Herbicide Company"...thnxs

    A little History Of T.H.E. R.R...

When I started back into model railroading a few years back...my son would come over and bring my grandson with him. "Chad"...my grandson...was always asking..as little boys always do.."What is that grandpa?"...pointing to something or the other.

    My reply:

    "Thats THE tunnel Chad."
    "Thats THE trees Chad."
    "Thats THE Burger King Chad."
    "Thats THE church Chad."
    "Thats THE fire station Chad."
    "Thats THE locomotives Chad."
    "Thats THE track Chad."
"Thats THE (fill in the blank) Chad."

So one day T.H.E. wife asks "Whatcha gonna call your RailRoad hun?" I didnt even hesitate..."It's T.H.E. RailRoad." I said. "After explaining to her that everyone who asks what something is and me always answering with "THE whatever!"...thats what I am gonna call her..."T.H.E" !! Then...T.H.E. Wife says "'THE' sounds like an acronym for something...whats T.H.E. stand for?" After a few minutes of standing there with that 'deer in the headlight' look on my face I told her "Why dont you come up with something if you are so darned smart!"

Later I saw her sitting at the dining room table...pencil in hand an feveriously scribbling on a piece of paper. Yup...I laughed ! T.H.E. Wife would be cooking dinner and run back to that paper to write something new on it.

The next morning as we sat down for breakfast she tells me "I thought about it all day and night and this is all of what I came up"...holding up the paper. I looked at all THE names she had jotted down...some funny...some indecipherable...some just plain weird ! Nothing jumped off that paper at me. T.H.E Wife saw the look on my face and sheepishly said " I finally hit on a name that fits ya...its on the back." I flip the paper over and darn near rolled outta my chair laughing ! There in BIG beautiful black letters was THE name and T.H.E. Acronym that my railraod was really meant for...

    The Horny Express !!

    Thus T.H.E. R.R. was born !!

*That's my story and I'm stickin to it !:tb-tongue::tb-cool:

Thnxs Nick. They only come to a scale 120 feet tall. I didnt think that was to far fetched a height for liquid storage tanks. Was a fun project...just rifleing thru my 'Junk' drawer and seeing what might work and what might not.

The warehouse was something I picked up on 'DaBay' unfinished. I painted and weathered it and its been sitting around collecting dust for almost a year !

    :tb-biggrin:

"A fertilizer company...ah dude, that stinks".................

I like it.... good idea with the bottles; might just have to steal that one..... it's amazing what other things can represent in scale..... - I once used a pepper mill for a storage tank.. and a right spicy tank it was too...........

    Nice work !

I've been looking at the ones I have too! I could not figure out what to do with them so I threw them away. On the plastic container it says to dispose the exausted drums to prevent exposure to the chemicals used to create the strips. I'm not sure what more harm the drum dispenser can do... ???

    BTW... great thinking!!!

    So my question would be...

If the chemicals are so harmful...and we put the strips into a drop of blood from a pin prick...arent we being exposed?...hmmmm:tb-wink:

BTW...the containers and drums where washed prior to use on the layout... :tb-wink:

COOL project. I love to find something that I would normally throw away and find I can use it in a structure or on T.H.E. layout in some way. I sure saves money.

Great kitbash. I'm going to have to look more carefully at my throw away items.
