Today I started on a couple of the Intermountain cars. These will be done at different levels of weathering, and some might just get a blast of Dullcoat and a dusting from the air brush. Here's a finished one, and a stock car.
I once read an artical on weathering several years ago, and it went something like this..... 1: Don't weather everything the same way. 2: Don't weather everything the same day. 3: Don't be afraid to try something new. I think if I do a couple cars a day, or each week, this will turn out to be a very realistic and good looking train. And, it will spread the fun out over a longer time. I'm pretty excited about it.
Great work! Those cars are awesome. And I love that SD9 I totally agree with don't weather everything the same way. However, I think your cars would look a lot better if you weathered the trucks a bit more with just a dust color. Especially the InterMountain ones. Just my 0,02.
Most impressive, Jerry! I love the varied weathering, and abuse the cars show. Very nice. Does Sam's Club sell bulk containers of celery seeds? Seems you'll need a pack or 2!
You've got me drooling:wub: Keep in mind the trucks were painted boxcar red. With painted/weathered trucks and wheel faces, everything blends together nicely. You can't beet that!:tb-wink:
From photos and videos I have seen, it looks like it varies by time frame. Seems the closer to the end of the beet era it got, the more USGX lettered cars and the newer, (Like the NSN kits), bigger beet cars there were. I am not sure what my ratio will be, probably 5-1 or so. Just enough to add some variety
Beautiful work! You might try toasting thoes seeds in the oven lightly to make sure they dont germinate. iIt may also provide some nice variations in the color of your "beets" too! Happy Modelin 282Mike
