Stub switches

    Are they feasible in this scale, in either DC or DCC? Does anyone have working examples? Thanks in advance.

    I don't see any reason that they can't be made to work in N scale. The issue will be alignment of the stub rails for the 2 (or more) paths, because there are no point rails that can be pushed against stock rails to force alignment. But, if activated with servos, I would think they could be aligned accurately enough. If not, then some sort of mechanical stop would have to be made that works from some out-of-sight position, which might be tough to do.

    I certainly wouldn't do it. Just as soon as you offer a product to the public, you get people expecting the same sort of reliability of performance you get from a standard turnout. No stub switch will ever be able to pull that off.

    You'd just be begging for unsatisfied customers.

    HOn3 modelers make stub turnouts all the time. I would use code 55 or code 40 in N scale. Making these turnouts was a lot of fun, I did some for my civil engineering certificate in the NMRA Master Model Railroader program. They would look best on a short line from the late 1800's to the mid 1930's unless you are doing something like the East Broad Top in standard N gauge.     Agreed! There's a reason these fell into disuse on the prototype. :) (yes, some still exist I know.)
