Does anybody know of a good outlet to purchase a steam whistle and a boiler or a diesel horn and compressor? I love those sounds, and it would be great fun competing against the people with their stereos!!!

Of course, I do not think everybody would appreciate it every morning, probably form a lynch mob after ther third eight o'clock wakeup call. And I do not think the UP would appreciate me answering thier late night freights.

It'd be killer on the hood though.

    Benny! Cease and Desist!!

I have twin Mountain Air Trumpets (26") that are no longer mounted on the roof of my pick-up. Reason? I was sternly 'advised' that it would be unkindly to blow them in town, or to display them in public.

Because these can be heard echoing along canyon walls for up to a mile, and up to three miles on flat land, they just might disturb the peace, or give some old lady a heart attact. And that at only 180 psi!

So don't even think about it Benny. I was lucky to have lived in a small town.

(But it was fun to be parked, and blow them when the girls got right in front of the pickup!) Twice, then I got caught! It used to be OK out in the country.

Just be warned that the fine is substantial when in the city limits, around hospitals and schools!!

My last issue of the J.C.Whitney catalog still shows exhaust whistles, and cut-outs, and airhorns with compressors. Truck salvage yards have the smaller type, but these big twin Leslies are probably not available to the general public today. I don't know.

I used to have air horns on my Mini-Cooper when I was young, and they certainly grabbed the attention

Speaking of steam whistles, there was someone in England who mounted a three-note chime whistle from a Gresley streamlined A4 (same class as Mallard), in his hall-way, and powered it with compressed air, activated by the door bell push! This was in a magazine several years ago, but I never heard whether it caused any heart attacks :D

    Darn!!!

    Good points.

It's only an idea...I know that not everybody is as appreciative of quality sound, and I do not think I could mount them on my Bicycle!!!!

Of course, nobody would be walking on the bike paths anymore...

If I ever get a real car, I know there is a lot of space under the hood of a half ton 71 Ford, I MIGHT install them just for exhibitoin. Not on the roof, too much attention. Just where only the mechanics can see them. Around here, somebody would probably strip them off of my truck before I even park!

Then again, I might be a lot safer without them, awfully great temptation if they were there.

    I'll take your advice

...what about using it as a car alarm...then, it could go off without it being my fault. Of course, I don't think it would activate many more times after the thieves figure it out the first time. And if I wasn't around to turn it off(as if I wouldn't hear it from my class) I don't relish the idea of a disturbance of the peace fine. I'd probably have to install a timer on it to shut it off after a couple oscillations!

Benny, if you pump up about 250psi, here is where you can buy new solid brass steam whistles:

For a car alarm, when these babys go off, the will wet their pants! :D
