I took these photos back in the early 90's at the BN yard in Fort Worth. I have never heard of the road name but it definently the Frisco scheme complete with the proper font and "be careful" slogans. I'm not sure if it is an ex-SLSF or not, but it sure does look like it! Also, notice the BN , Texas and the American flags.
The Colorado and Wyoming had at least two of these Geeps in the Frisco colors (2001 & 2002) - it sparked some conversation in the Frisco forum a couple years ago and it was determined that these units were not ex-SLSF. Surely someone musta had a heart for the Frisco though when deciding to paint them as such! Font is dead on Frisco which was the kicker. George Elwood has a couple more pics on his site of these units. Thanks for sharing!! -Mike
The Colorado & Wyoming had 2 GP38-2's numbered 2001 and 2002. These GP38-2's were purchased direct via EMD in 1973 and used on the Colorado & Wyoming Railroad which served CF&I Iron with raw materials till early 80's or so. I'm not certain of their disposition from there, have seen pics of the GP38-2's and SW's in Texas in the early to mid 80's. They sure had a frisco esque look to em, that their locos acquired around 1980 or so. I imagine someone in that business had an affinity for the Frisco scheme, but am not sure. Chuck
Mike, Sorry to echo what you already mentioned, I must have been typing my post when you posted your reply. Chuck
I am 95% sure that the basis for both the Frisco and C&W schemes was the EMD GP35 demo scheme (except the demo scheme had silver trucks). I am also 95% sure that the first Frisco GP 35's were black and yellow and the Mandarin and White was introduced during the delivery of the units - don't have a clue as to which units were black and yellow. Anyone else remember it this way?
Shortlines often copy fallen flag schemes. I've seen imitations of NYC, GN and others. I seem to recall a Burlington Chinese Red copy...
The C and W was painted while Frisco was around so it was not a fallen flag. I shot those units at Sunrise WY, just out side of Guensey(sp) in 78 or so.
