With the SP Pinole Mains Operational, the SP Power Planners need to get the small fleet available at the moment up to SP standards. Here SD9E 4409 heads into the Sacremento Shops....better known as my workbench.
The upgrades on SP locomotives is really going to feel the Sunrise Detailing absence. Luckily, I have enough for a couple rebuilds. But I might have to get stingy on some of them. Here's all I have finished today....a modified plow to match a photo of 4409. More to come...
Here 4409's headlight has been carefully cut off. You can see it on the foam in the left bottom corner. I am going to save it, might be able to use it later.
The Sunrise light fit very close to where the cast on light was, so I drilled holes in the casting. We'll have to see if it works or not. I hope to have certain locomotives as leaders, and give them operating Mars lights.
I hope to get more SD9's and do one with the barrel lights. I also got an undecorated SD7 from NSN that I am going to paint and give the barrel lights.
While the glue dries on the SD9E light package, we move to another part of the shops, (better known as 6 inches to the right), and find SD40R 7347 ready for her cleaning.
Here's the cleaning track. A piece of Atlas flex track connected to a cheap powerpack, a coffee filter, with a couple drops of thinner on it.
She may be dirty on top, but she's shiny clean on the bottom. Sign the card, and put her back in service.
